Omega General Help / MV6 Front suspension top mount
« on: 24 January 2018, 13:03:47 »
Simply, Why the huge cap between top of strut and arch?

I got information that since A-omega the top mounts have been the same but can there be differences?

Hello, I haven't stopped with the car :)

After 2016 autobox problems kind of needed a break from the car but eventually the interest got back up :)

Summer 2017 I changed almost every bit of cooling system radiator, thermostat, pipes, pumps and even re-wired the additional electric pumps to control them manually. After that finally heating problems got away.

As the winter was coming fast, changed bushings to rear and to front (I don't know why I got no pictures of front ones) rear bushing from pedders (fit to monaro). Front bushes were yellow strongflex straight fit.

Some rust fixes from front arch and finally new front shock absorders.

As for coming, I just got a new garage :)

Omega General Help / Re: Rear subframe bushes - where to buy?
« on: 21 January 2018, 20:39:16 »
I just wanted to add that I ordered Polyurethane Rear Subframe Bushings for the Pontiac GTO/Vauxhall Monaro from Pedders last autumn and those are good. Car feels lighter, the "big boat" feeling went away :)

Omega General Help / Re: strange oil problem
« on: 01 November 2017, 06:41:11 »
I had one time problem on a highway driving longtime at about 3000rpm. There was enough oil but afterwards signs of blocked breather so did a good cleaning to whole air intake and breathers. No problems after that. I use Mobil rally formula 5w-50 and change at 7000-10000km

Both rear and front bushings installed to wishbone. Strongflex yellow (sport)
Didn't hammer or heat while taking old ones off only used saw. Wishbones were in good condition as changed just last year.

Result was good, steering changed to more precise. We'll see in future what happens.

Well I have now ordered front and rear bushes for front wishbones... Maybe look into reinforcing the wishbone?

No, just the wishbone...

The bolt being 10 times thicker than the wishbone ;)

Wishbone cracked!?

From Finland too, can't solve problem with this so I made new wiring trough basic relay with switch in the cabin, only using pump at winter when on HI setting. Or at summer when very hot.

Apparently not :-\

Picture in your mind, the ring that the rear bush sits in being snapped off completely causing the arm to bend forward where the front bush is located.

Now imagine this happening as you crest a bump in the road on a slight bend at around 130kmh.

If those cheapy ones haven't snapped your wishbones yet then there are 3 possible reasons...

1. you're simply not driving hard enough.
2. they are too soft to be useful.
3. you haven't found the cracks yet.

At least two of those statements are likely to be true.

If I imagine it correctly we are now talking about front wishbone's rear mount and it being snapped? That must mean that the bolt also snapped?

Just don't poly bush the rear wishbone mount.  ::)

Why not?
Because this...

... will happen.

In my case cresting a slight rise on a fast A road at around 75mph. With no warning.

As there was a suspicion that this could happen, I checked the arms weekly. They had infact been inspected only two days before.

So there you have it kids, just say no. ;)

Can you provide these pictures?

Engine sump plug is M14, right?

I think diff is okay at this case since oil for it has been changed a year ago, I just have changed radiator so a little atf drained :)

Past few days changed: radiator, coolant bridge washers, thermostat, electric water pump and hoses for the airpump pumping air into exhaust in startup. Added a pre-heater to coolant system.
And of course cleaned every single piece that were out of the engine  :y

Omega General Help / AR35 oil sump/level plug size?
« on: 27 July 2017, 09:47:32 »
Hello,

I'm planning on checking autobox fluid and would be nice to get a new copper ring to the plug before, so does anyone have the size of it ?

Also is it possible to add the size of the copper ring to these guides as I think it would help in future?

How to check the auto box fluid level

Changing automatic transmission fluid (ATF) (AR35)

Thanks,
-Mika

Omega General Help / Re: How does HBV work V6
« on: 24 July 2017, 10:39:02 »
When the car has been switched off there is still a vacuum present which has enough power to keep the pressure in the system albeit for a short while.

I dont have climate control but when mine is off and I turn the direction dial, you can hear the flaps hissing then the vacuum dissapears.

Have you checked the rubber couplers on the vac lines?
any signs of cracking will contribute to vacuum loss

I have a line that has nearly worn through where it has been rubbing on the coolant bridge.

Or the diaphram in you hbv is nearing its usefulness and needs replacing

I have checked all lines in engine bay and only thing worries me is that the pipe coming from brake servo (big round thingy) has been rubbed against AC line and has little worn but I think it's still okay. I have moved it a bit and now it doesn't touch that AC line anymore.

HBV is the next in line then but when pumping it with under pressure pump it sure works very good, and my pump doesn't even go on scale when the HBV already works.
