Volvo V70 Drivers Door Problem
« on: 15 December 2019, 12:13:21 »

A few weeks ago the wind caught my drivers door on the V70 and broke the door strap.  :(

At the time I wasn't too bothered as the door opened and closed easily, but at some point the door strap has caught the window track and bent it and now my window won't go down.  :-\

I took the door card off yesterday, but there is only a small hole by the door strap to work through and although I had a go at un-bending the window track with a pair of stilsons, I didn't have much luck.  :(

Other than persisting with my gynecological efforts to unbend the window track through the little hole, any suggestions?  ???  It seems to me that the window track is riveted into the door structure as far as I can tell...  :-\

Easier said than done....  ::)

The inner door skin is not removable and even to replace the window mechanism you have work through a hole...  :-\

I can't see how the window track can be removed to be honest, as it looks as though it as been riveted in place and then the inner door skin welded on.  :-\

I'll have to have another look...  ::)

You're lucky. The OUTER plastic door panel needs to come off my Smart Roadster to access the window mechanism  ::)  :y

you need a diagram of how the door assemblies fit together. Google should provide that.

Window tracks are usually inserted through the top of the door, and secured in place once the window has been fitted to its mechanism. That's normally bolts/screws, but as most cars that aren't VAG products don't need to have the windows serviced then rivets would be a good option. Rivets are a better fastener than bolts, and particularly screws, when securing to moving or vibrating sheetmetal. Drill them out and replace if necessary.

What age is it? Post '07 the inner door skin should be Bolted on... Technically to remove it you first remove the door card followed by the glass. Presumably to avoid setting issues as the motor is attached to the door skin.

Removing glass is easy, but requires opening the window 265mm, then pop out two grommets, loosen two nuts a maximum of two turns and lift the window out arse end first :y

If you're as slightly built as I recall, then you should be able to get both arms and a head inside the door once the panel is off ;)
