Another MOT Pass
« on: 08 January 2020, 13:41:53 »

Had my car MOT'd this morning at my Vx dealer on TC and it passed with flying colours.

The "advisorories" about dirty and corroded front springs and brake pipes of 2019, that I dealt with by getting under the car and washing them all down, then covering them in anti-rust treatment / paint, were not repeated, so I am very pleased about that! 8) 8) :D

Yes, indeed, and just proves if we spend time and money on our beloved Omega's they will last until the costs become too prohibited or we cannot do what is required to keep them running.

Just the other day I saw one almost exactly the same as mine; same colour and specification in great condition, but 1 year older.

Long live the Omega! ;D ;D :y :y

Well done, Lizzie. Another year of luxury motoring to come. Have you found an understanding tester?

Mine is the same colour and similar spec as yours but has covered almost 190,000 miles. Its still lovely to drive and attracts admiring comments from people. This is, as you say, because its been taken care of during its life. It like it could be capable of lasting another 17 years and doing the same miles again.

Yes, mines at 79K, so in theory, mechanically, it could :y :y

It is just the potential issues with the chassis that others have warned about that ring in my ears and I cannot ignore.  Still, after coating even hidden areas of the chassis with cans of protective solution and painting others, I can do no more.  ::);) :y

Funnily enough the tester at my Vx dealer knows my car well after years of doing the MOT on it.  They also know I have spent real time and money on it.  Last year however I went to my usually very reliable tyres, exhausts, brakes, general servicing and repairs dealer, that has also sporadically also tested my car, but it was a different guy to the one that knows me and car well.  I have this niggling suspicion that he found fault, advisoraries, that were no where near as bad as he suggested.  Proved indeed by me simply cleaning down all the brake pipes and springs, giving them a coat of paint (for the springs) and protective Supertrol along all brake lines. As I stated before, no mention was made this time at all of any "dirt or corrosion" on anything!! ::) ::) :-X

TBH, I nearly didn't even bother presenting TBE for its MOT last summer.  It was only the age old issue of not being able to find a replacement meant I did.

The killer is rust and fuel costs, everything else can be sorted for relatively low cost, complete engines, gearboxes, diffs, doors, doors etc but rust in all the wrong structural places and heavy fuel consumption compared to more modern engines is its downfall.

LPG overcame the fuel issue for me, as my boot was only needed twice a year.  Though she finds it a weekly chore to find LPG in these parts - best case is a 20 mile round trip, with about a 85% success rate, and an horrific 68.9p

Yes, I had forgotten about that.  Mind you, none of my Omega’s have had their gearboxes touched even after double my current mileage! ::) ::) :D :D

My beloved Silver Bullet had loads of services.  Namely because it had a habit of deciding that the ATF was better on the outside of the box.
