one or two mechanics on the forum will do this for you cheaper than you have been quoted, Daz did mine (2.6 though) la st week, I travelled 200 miles there to get it done and still saved money... can throughly recommend Daz to do the job.....

Omega General Help / cam belt
« on: 21 February 2011, 16:32:20 »
hi, I have a 2.6 auto, and looking through the service book a naew cam belt was fitted in August 07 and have learned from this forum, this needs to be checked and /or replaced in 4 years or 40,000 miles, well I havent done anywhere near the miles but the 4 years is approaching I have a price of about£375 for replacemant, can any members enlighten me if this important enough to spend this money, I only do about 8000miles a year  what would be the consequences if I didnt have it done and it went wrong? (I would add that the belt was changed in 2007, before I bought the car so am not clued up on the proceedure.... many thanks

I feel I can answer this as I had my cam belt changed only yesterday by Daz, It cost be about half what I too was quoted by a vauxhall dealer I travelled 200 miles to dazs place on recommendation from other members of this forum and I can assure you I was not disappointed there are one or two mechanics on the forum that do these jobs,  and I am sure will do the job well and cheaper,   I watched Daz do the job and  my belief is that he is an expert.  I cant say more than that......

thanks Kevin, I did a rough check by calulating the miles I travelled and the fuel I used I put in £56.00 of petrol done 180 miles and had left in the tank roughly the same as when I filled up.  I worked this out as approx. 30p a mile towing. do you think this is reasonable?

Omega General Help / MPG?
« on: 18 April 2008, 18:18:29 »
HI, after successfuly towing with my 2.6auto the one problem i found was my MPG. It is normally around 24.6 it stayed the same while towing 197 miles, Is this what members mean to have a tech2 to update my comp. asI think my MPG towing would be around 16/18MPG,  My local Vaux garage have the Tech 2 facility, any members know how much this would cost,, many thanks :)
