Something kind of similar happened yesterday morning....
I was on the M25 anti clockwise between the A13 & A12, in the middle lane. On the inside lane was a landscaping/fencing pick up, like
the waste pick up's with the high sided mesh all the way round...so he's got a pile of fence panels laid down in the back & as I'm approaching his offside rear, a panel flies off the back...then another, then another, then another 4! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I blasted him several times, he was completely oblivious but then pulled onto the hs. It was still quite early, thankfully there was no one immediately behind him  :o

I have used these before (which looks like what was in the original post) and they have been generally ok....as long as they are well tightened when you go to start!

That's exactly what I had & broke in the first place  :-[
Being the tight arse I am, I'm now more annoyed because the one shown is a whole pound cheaper than the replacement I've ordered  >:( ..Grrr

Well, that sudden cold snap must have brought on a dose of man-flu, surely?
My advice for tomorrow is to go to bed under a trained nurse..... :y :y :y

Ron.
Phoaah...wouldn't that be nice! In my dreams  :P

If you want the clamps to be QD:-

Ron.
Thanks Ron, if I have no joy with the replacement I have already ordered, then I will go for one of those  :y

No, but 70% of my motoring will be in the cooking oil car so I can afford a V8 for the other 30%. Same as now but a V6 rather than a V8 at the moment.  :y
Fair comment  :y

I caused the problem because I decided I needed a type of clamp that will disconnect the battery quickly & without tools.
The reason being, the car is going to be left in France, at the airport & will be stood for long periods.
I found, amongst my car stuff, this clamp which can be removed by hand, so it's not the original. I was trying to widen the gap in the clamp with a wide ended screwdriver ( as per one of the replies ) & that's how I snapped it.
Yes, as per normal, I wish I hadn't started but I'm here now & with a new one ordered I will be back to the same problem of needing to widen the gap - hence my original question?  ::)
