Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Central locking
« on: 22 October 2006, 18:09:10 »
I've noticed that when i use to key fob to lock the car all the door's lock except the driver's, but when i press the fob a second time to double lock the door button goes down & the door lock's, if i use the key then all the door's lock first time.
Is something sticking or worn out & is it easy to fix.

Omega General Help / OIL COOLER
« on: 24 March 2008, 11:06:57 »
Hi everyone.
It's been some time since i have been on the forum, i like the new look. Unfortunately the omega has been off the road for a while, reduced to driving the lad's Rover 400 (not the same). The problem is went to top the water up only to find it was full of sluge,
Had a word with the local garage & they tell me that the oil seals have gone on the oil cooler & leeked into the water system (they say a commen fault :question).
They say it's a big job, will be a hell of a game to clean the water system out & cost a few hundred pounds at the very least, now is this wright, i have ltd knowledge under the hood, so would i be able to do this working out of the Haynes or is there a how to on the forum.
Any help or advice would be great.
                                                  Thanks BIG STEVE.

Omega General Help / Exhaust Click
« on: 07 May 2007, 21:39:58 »
Have had the annoying click for a bit now, but seems to be getting louder. Had it checked out,
been told it's the manifold gasket, drivers side. Only used to get it when cold but now notice it when engine warmed up, not sure if it's going to effect the engine soon. Not able to fix it myself, havent got the knowledge or the tools & have to use the car every day now since some git nicked my astra. have taken it to 3 garages so far, 2 said they did'ent wont the job, & the 3rd said it's a big job, will take 4 to 5 hours & cost just under £300, is this a fair price, i think it's a bit high, wonder what Vaxhall would charge, well it's to high for me so any suggestions.

Omega General Help / Seat Height adjuster
« on: 01 January 2007, 14:23:13 »
Passenger seat has been stuck in the fully up pos. for some time. Everytime you pressed the switch in either direction it just went clunk, so tried the thread in the how to section. First tried tightening up a bit but it still went clunk, so tried turning it the other way to loosen it but at the same time pressed the switch for the seat to go down & it worked going in both directions now, so it seems it was jammed in the up pos. Now when i get in the passenger side i dont have to sit at a funny angle, unless i've had a few ;D

Omega General Help / Aircon-what to do next
« on: 14 October 2006, 17:55:56 »
As you would expect, mid summer, aircon pack's up.  >:(
First mistake took it to Vauxhall, after two re-gas's they
tell me the condencer has a slight leek, missed it the first
time. They could fix it but the condencer would be £325.00
& you can only get it from them, + fitting bill would be over
£500.00. Allready spent £75.00 on gas, so said thank's but
no thank's. Got a condencer from Autovaux less then half the price,
had it fitted by a local garage when i had the car serviced.
He got an outside company in to gas it as he does not have the
equipment, lasted a whole week before it packed up. Took it back
to the aircon company who tested it & told me that now the seals
have gone on the compressor, he said the seals could be changed
but this might not work & it would be better to change the compressor,
but this will cost. So what to do next, i did see an article in the parts
for sale section that some peple have used a company called coolcaraircon,
do they think it would be worth getting in touch, see if they could help.
Or if anyone has any other suggestions i would be greatfull.

Newbie Welcome Area / HELLO
« on: 13 October 2006, 19:56:43 »
Hello everyone
Only just found out about this site, saw it in total vauxhall. Allready a member of a vauxhall club but it's great to see a site dedicated to the omega, in my opinion the best car in the fleet.
I have owned my 97 2.5 CDX for over 4 years mostly trouble free, but as with all things that get older
parts are starting to go wrong. So i will be looking at the tec. section & asking for advice. Hope to hear from some of you soon.

Thanks Big Steve.

General Discussion Area / Insurance Renewal
« on: 07 June 2007, 12:33:40 »
Have the insurance renewal coming up soon :'( normaly go with adrian flux, this years premium
£428.00 & thats with a £250.00 excess, 20 years protected no claims + had to tell them of a few mods
on the car.
I have heard that flux are not very good at paying up on claims, so can some of you tell me of any
better company's out there who don't mind a few mods & don't bang on loads for having them.
Out of curiosity, what do you guys pay for your insurance and  whos is it with?
                                                                                                                 :y

General Discussion Area / Yet another pass
« on: 29 January 2007, 21:23:25 »
10yrs old, my 6th MOT & yet another pass, god I love this car ;D. Had me worried at one point when he said it hadn't passed the emissions then realised he hadn't let the cat's warm up, when he had, no problem went straight through. Made me grin when he tested the brakes, put the handbrake on & it shot out of the rollers then told me my brakes were to good, I explained I changed them for dimple & groove discs with green stuff pad's. I must admit he did hand me an orange sheet at the end :-? I had to ask him what it was never seen one before, told me it was an advisory notice, asked him what was wrong & he said there was slight play in the N/S/F intermediate drop arm which may cause some wear on the nearside tyre in the future, so changed it straight away.
So another year of trouble free driving :y
                                                                Hopefully

General Discussion Area / Thieving Gits
« on: 21 January 2007, 19:37:26 »
Been out for a nice drive in the Omega on Saturday, came back home parked up on the driveway went in & looked forward to a nice relaxing evening. Sent my son to get something out the back of my old rusting 92 Astra only to have him say it's gone, even though it looked a nail it was reliable, got me to work everyday & did around 50mpg. Reported it to the police who said they would look into it. Meanwhile decided to jump in the meega with my two sons & a baseball bat & have a look around the area, knowing full well there was no petrol in the car & they wouldn’t get very far. Drove down the road, saw two suspicious people running away from some garages. Had a look down the entrance to the garages & there was the astra. Quickly checked the car and found that they had bent back the top of the driver’s door to get in, and then smashed the entire ignition system to try & get it started. Jumped back in the car to try & find the two people but they were long gone. Phoned the police again to tell them I had found it, and then they turned up 10 min's later.  Just had time to take my details before they had to respond to another job.

The worst part of this was the trouble I had getting the car back up the hill to my house, car was out of action, the hill was to steep to push up, the AA said they couldn’t help because it wasn’t a break down (so much for paying them every year) they told me to call my insurance who said they couldn’t arrange recovery because it hadn’t been in an accident, call back Monday during office hours. Nobody I asked had a tow rope and the police told me I needed to get it on my driveway so that it wouldn’t be temptation for others torch it.

The way I managed to get it back in the end was when the scenes of crime officer gave me some advice on how to start it with no ignition the following morning.

Now I have to get in touch with the insurance company on Monday, who I think will just write it off after who knows how long of a wait.

One good thing I suppose is that it was the astra and not the meega :y

So how was your saturday night :question
