Yes, it sounds like it may be that. I will leave it a while, see how it goes and then get one ordered. Thanks for the help as usual guys.

Constant flashing without pauses so no codes.  I think I will monitor and record the symptoms to see if they provide any further clues. Must remember not to park it in front of other cars just in case it decides not to play!!  :o

Omega General Help / V6 02 Elite reluctant to start
« on: 08 March 2013, 07:34:46 »
Past couple of mornings the engine has not wanted to fire, turns over fine but not even a hint of life. Battery is new so I don't have the previous issue of it dying after turning the engine over 3/4 times. After trying about 15 times the engine splutters to life, picks up and then is fine. Runs nice and smooth, no indication any any issues. Parked at work yesterday for 10 hours and then she started on the first turn of the key but this morning same reluctance.
My thoughts - crank sensor or fuel pump, any ideas / advice please? Can codes be checked for using the paperclip method?

Bought new 2 years ago, only used on my Elite for one season, now towing with a Sorento. Excellent condition, all parts present including original receipt. Totally invisible when towball is removed. A quality piece of kit, so impressed I bought another for the Sorento. £100 wanted but open to sensible offers.

I have a Westfalia detachable towbar which I fitted to my facelift 2.6 saloon less than two years ago. It is currently still on the car but I am looking to sell it as I no longer use it.

Omega General Help / Battery buying advice please.
« on: 19 February 2012, 22:22:20 »
The battery on my 02 2.6 Elite appears to be struggling to hold a charge, a couple of times recently it has been unable to start the car. I replaced the alternator last year and that appears to be working fine when tested as per the guide. If anyone can recommend a decent make to buy, will most likely go for a higher ampage as we tow a caravan and from experience the car battery always takes some 'stick'.  :y

Got the old one off, pig of a job getting to the back of the top bolt, in the end I held the torx head with an 11mm ring spanner as i couldn't get a ratchet and torx socket in! Cleaned the bottom of the block and surrounding area while it was accessible, new alternator fitted (£90 through a mate in the trade). Now working as it should - I'm happy.  :)

Never got round to it this weekend, had to sort SWMBO's Volvo for the mot. ::)
When I get round to it this week should I believe the Haynes book and remove the alternator from underneath or do the OOF experts have wiser advice?  ;)

2002 2.6 Elite. On the way home, car running fine when the battery warning light comes on, still running fine. After a while the display begins to dim and the ABS / TC lights come on, I continue to drive but turn everything electrical off, instruments stop working the engine and steering start to feel sluggish, other lights come on including the engine management light. I got home turned the engine off, tried to start it - nothing. Voltage at the battery reads 9.8v. After a couple of hours on charge the battery shows 12.3v, engine starts and all the lights are out apart from the battery light. Checked voltage at battery with the engine running - 9.8v  :(

Alternator goosed? If it is what is the best advice for replacement?

Got a Westfalia detachable last year for around £300 including the electrics kit and vat. it had to come from Germany as there were none available in the UK? It is great bit of kit if a little on the high side in terms of price, works great for the caravan.  :)
