General Discussion Area / Re: What has P*ssed you off today?
« on: 02 January 2024, 23:33:29 »
A good few years ago, I was on the M6, in lane 3 overtaking a line of vehicles in lane 2, when a dark coloured Range Rover approached me behind, and as it got nearer, blue lights illuminated, so I naturally 'squeezed' in between the vehicles I was passing to allow the Range Rover to pass, thinking it was an unmarked Police or emergency services vehicle, which it did at speed. I did notice it was a top spec model, not the more basic version commonly used by the Police. It was also on a private reg, which was a bit suss and the main reason I decided to report it. The Police operator confirmed that it wasn't a Police Vehicle. Several miles down the M6, it had been stopped, and later feedback from the Officer dealing was that it was a 'Joe Public' driver who had fitted the blue lights himself - I can only presume to possibly assist him through conjested areas of traffic...he ended up in Court, but unfortunately, I don't know the result. What a plonker....but the other implications of any possible intended actions could be quite serious.

I always used to volunteer to work as many Public Holidays as I could, if not rostered to work them. Double pay helped a lot with a young family. I was also able to pop home on Christmas Day - if on earlies when the kids opened their presents, or if on lates, then I could come home for Christmas dinner with them. However, if on nights, I didn't get a lot of sleep!
But then again, I used to enjoy my job anyway irrespective of what shifts were thrown at me throughout the year......

It is also dependent on the accuracy / consistancy of the detail submitted to the DVLA by dealerships on 1st registration. It's more so of an issue with older vehicles when handwritten details were submitted to the DVLA prior to everything currently available on line.

It's definitely going to be a CRV, the comments on here have made my mind up. Think I'll leave it till after Christmas, there are a good few about. Thanks all, except Opti, who is a piss taking tŵat  ;D

My wife has had three Honda CRV EX models since 2011. The first was the last of the older shape; an 2011 auto with the 2.2 diesel engine, which was an excellent car, comfy and good to drive. Good in snow too. The shape was a bit 'marmite', but it did 107k, with no mechanical issues, apart from a faulty parking sensor fixed under warranty. Replaced with a later (2015) 1.6 160bhp EX auto, which was more responsive, but economical (and cheaper road tax compared to the older 2.2 engine) and a very comfortable place to be. Basically the same body and interior to the one you have seen advertised, but a black leather interior (that beige interior to me is hideous....), and the later 1.6 160bhp turbo engine (I'd avoid the 120 bhp 2WD version) After some kind sole damaged it front and rear, after if was repaired, she replaced with an identical but 2017 model, which has been very reliable, and has only had a faulty 'water in fuel filter' sensor, which was not a particularly expensive fix.
She loves them, and I have to agree they are a very good well screwed together vehicle, so I don't think to you will go far wrong with one of those from our experiences of them. From a personal preference, I'd go for the EX model with the better spec without question :y

Omega General Help / Re: cambelt 3.2 elite gates

I think I would rather stick with a nos kit that I had 'in stock', and I know its source, than one bought currently from a supplier of which you don't know its history / age anyway. If stored well, out of light and damp, then I would be quite happy, for example, to have one of my nos GM replacement kits on my car. Especially relative to the belt itself. If a kit has been stored badly, there probably would be some pointers to indicate this anyway.

Omega General Help / Re: wet in boot
« on: 15 December 2023, 11:03:39 »
I too had water collecting in the spare wheel well of my 3.2 saloon. The boot lip seal seemed fine, but I changed it for a known good one off another car with a dry boot, without any noteable improvement. With further delving, I did notice that, as Carfix has said, there was a minute gap between the spot welded seam in the nearside boot lip aperture, directly below the rear screen rubber moulding. Shining a inspection lamp inside the boot in that area helped to pinpoint it as you could see the light between the two panels. Rather than use seam sealer, which would have involved a bit of paint touching up, I forced some DumDum in with my finger from both sides. This seemed to have cured it, and the beauty of DumDum is that any excess can be removed with White Spirit, leaving just the correct amount of sealant in the affected seam which skins over but remains flexible, without any overlapping as with brushable seam sealer. It's barely visible, and doesn't look out of place, and requires no touching in with paint.
Incidentally, if your boot lid sits well between the rear wings, without being proud, don't be tempted to try adjusting the hinges.....before I found the gap in the above seam, I tried adjusting the hinges as mine was marginally proud on the unaffected side, but what a mistake that was... any adjustment I attempted seemed to have the opposite affect, and trying to get to sit as it should once the allen key bolts had been slackened was a nightmare. I did get it right in the end, but not without a lot of cursing and  swearing......

Omega General Help / Re: crank shaft sensor query.
« on: 04 December 2023, 22:22:03 »
I'd agree with the self levelling shocks, but their failure in my experience is linked to rear coil spring pigtails breaking, which tended to be reasonably often, especially if towing.
But two crank sensors in 250k isn't really a service item is it? More preventative maintenance as you have stated.

The crank sensor is basically a service item on the Omega.

Along with the HBV, wishbone bushes and steering idler :D

A service item??? Really???
I don't know what you did with your Omega (when you actually owned one) to have the necessity to change those items at such an appalling rate :o
The 2.6 and 3.2 crank sensor is as said 90540743.
19 years of 3.2 and 2.6 ownership, plus numerous other 2.2, 2.6 and 3.2's owned on a shorter period basis, and approx.150k combined in that time, I've only ever had to change one crank sensor on a 2.2 due to failure, one set of wishbones, one HBV, and no idlers.
So to suggest they are basically service items is a bit extreme, to say the least....

General Discussion Area / Re: The state of the NHS

I saw my doctor for the referral for my first hip operation; the second (for which I hadn't actually seen the doctor about), I sort of self diagnosed. I rang the doctors, spoke to the practice nurse, and basically told her I felt that the time had come to consider a second hip operation (they obviously had my records about the first hip operation). I got the referral details through within a week, chose which hospital I wished to attend online (naturally chose the same hospital as my first operation), saw the same consultant within 2 months, who agreed the second operation was needed, and within 5 months, I had it done. Not private health care - all on the NHS.
As I said before, my experiences have all been superb.

There's always good and bad stories about peoples experiences of the NHS - personally mine is excellent.
Had two total hip replacements - one in 2021 and the other in 2022, both after only approx 7 months after seeing the doctor.  The waiting time of 7 months included being referred, seeing the consultant, and all the pre op tests etc etc
My second one would have been after only 5 months, but I got Covid after attending a funeral, so it had to be postponed >:(
The standard of care and the post op treatment was second to none.
I know I'm only one in a long list of patients, and waiting times do vary from region to region, but I've nothing but praise for my NHS experiences follow my ops.

If you have a tasty vehicle, and the scrotes really want it, the alternative to them accessing your vehicle on the drive using their scanning equipment is them breaking in your house for the keys. If they then can't find them and they really do want it, do you really want them coming upstairs in the dead of night threatening you with violence for the keys?
In some respects, them accessing the car without threatening you or the family is a safer, although extremely worrying, alternative?
