Title: 2.2 16V Z22XE catalytic converter & 'Type Approval'
Post by: Enceladus on 07 August 2019, 01:27:33
Having had a closer look at the exhaust problem mentioned here (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=145394.0), it seems that the flexible pipe section in front of the downstream cat is blowing at one end. See photo below. The outer weave is torn on the right edge, upstream side of the main cat. The main cat itself seems to be working as there is no EML

Is there a way to repair the flexible section or do I need a whole new 'Type Apptoved' down-pipe with cats?
Did the factory Z22XE downpipe have a flexible section or is this an aftermarket?

Thanks,

It's factory  ;)

You can get repair flexis, but fitting in situ is a pita, so may just as well fit new, but that's your choice  :y

It's also rusted through at the flanges that join to the middle section. The back box is also 7 years old and not original. So looks like I'm in for a whole new exhaust.

What's the best assembly paste and/or sealer to use these days?

X22XE 2.2 16V. How is the cat downpipe attached to the manifold?
M8 hex head bolts with copper nuts?
Or is it studs with copper nuts?

What size are the bolts? Or studs?
And can they be replaced with stainless?

M8 copper nuts are listed on EPC and I have some.
But there's no mention of bolts or studs?
