Wanted set of rear springs for my Elite Estate..

MOT failure on a broken rear spring on my Elite Estate, suspension is non air and had been changed before my ownership to Bilsteins B6's front and rear.

So if anyone has a set for sale I'd be very appreciative, but if not Bilstein then a 'normal' set would be fine.

I've recently replaced the rear suspension donuts to my car I bought mine from  http://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/ and thought they would be the OEM versions as they use the part number 90447156N, but I now found out the 'N' at the end indicates they are not OEM versions.

Whilst the handling of the car is much improved from before it still at times gets caught out with a bit of rear steering from tramlines and ruts, would it help if i got the 'proper' bushes from Vauxhalls. Are they much different ?

Is there anything else thats likely to wear out, I would have a look but the weather has not been kind these last few days.

Omega General Help / How do you do yours, wishbones that is..
« on: 22 December 2011, 19:58:29 »
Just changed my wishbones again for a set with poly bushes..

This is about the 4th time Iv'e changes a set and usually when refitting I get the front and rear bushes aligned with the bolts in loose the faff about trying to get the bottom suspension leg ball joint in place, its usually involves a large lever to get the wishbone low enough to line up the pin.

But this time on one side I decided to put the ball joint in place first, then get the rear bush in place, this was probably harder than usual due to the wishbone being at an angle, so I had to use a drift to knock the metal sleeve of the bush in place, then the front pivot was quite easy because I put the poly bushes in last by pulling the wishbone down and sliding the bushes in.

So how do you do yours, ball joint in first or last...

General Car Chat / Machine Mart rant...
« on: 22 December 2011, 15:03:17 »
Recently bought a new 2ton trolley jack to help me with removing my rear wishbone bushes (see other thread) I thought my other halfords special wouldn't have enough height.

Use my new jack to do one side ok, but when used on the other side of the car the jack wont lift the car high enough as the handle has run out of stroke, it appears as if its low on oil and wont pump any more.

So I take it back to Machine Mart, guy takes it out the box and says its because the releasing screw is undone, I explain I'm not that stupid and had to release the screw to lower the jack and get it back in the box. So he proceeds to take it outside and jack up a car in the car park, (which I assume is his) and low and behold it wont lift very far. So I get a replacement..

And guess what, this new ones even bloody worse !!! hardly jacks up at all.. I wonder if they'll pay my petrol at about 20miles round trip each time...

Omega General Help / Rear bushes changed today
« on: 20 December 2011, 22:14:36 »
Been changing the rear bushes today to try and cure wandering..

This is the drivers side bush, notice solid rubber in the bush is aligned with the arm.

The bush has come away from the metal sleeve.

Passengers side bush, again the solid part of the bush is aligned with the arm

Bit of a mess but there out. The other bush has also become separated from the metal sleeve.

And has it made any difference ? To be honest I'm not 100% sure it has, I still get slight movement at the back when going over ruts and grooves in the road. But I have also recently changed the front wishbones and as yet haven't had the geo done. I've only driven it a for about 20miles just to check it out and probably won't drive it much till I get it checked out. It is better than before but probably I was expecting perfection..

Another question which way should the bushes be aligned, as seen in the pics they are about 45deg out from the way mentioned in the guide. So who's correct ?

Omega General Help / Rear subframe bushes and wandering
« on: 03 December 2011, 17:51:18 »
My Omega over the last few months has got progressively worse steering in a straight line and tramling.. I have just changed the front wishbones, but i cant make up my mind if its the rear of the car thats the problem. The handling just feels a bit weird.

Do worn rear subframe bushes show any symptoms, and are problems with them easy to spot.

The track-rod ends appeared ok and I couldn't find any slack in the idler arm whilst I was changing the wishbones. But I now wish i did the drop links as they are noisy now..

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1305666228

Would these just plug in into a 2013 unit without mods

Elite Pete says they come from a ccr2006 stereo

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Fuse 15 BINGO !!! fixed it.
« on: 28 March 2010, 19:37:28 »
After quite a few hours I've finally tracked down the cause of the blowing fuse 15

I started by putting in in-line fuses to  the heated front seats and the memory supply which seemed favourite down by the seat connection next to the sill.

Whilst messing about checking something else the main 20amp blew, didn't check at the time but later noticed the driver seat fuse had also gone, so out came the seat...

Found the feed around to the heater module which is a constant feed had rubbed against the metal frame of the seat and worn through the insulation.

The heater module looks like its pushed down inside the foam of the seat.

I did try taking a photo but the cable is right behind one of the seat motors, (and it was getting dark) also a bit of a pain to tape up. There was also a piece of sticky back plastic which looked as if it should have been wrapped around the seat frame to protect the cable but it hadn't been stuck down properly.

I think I'll leave the in-line fuses there, just in case :-)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Fuse 15 blowing again
« on: 21 March 2010, 19:51:34 »
There's been numerous thread on fuse 15 blowing randomly, mine hasn't blown since driving in France in the summer. Today it blew on whilst on the M25, Brother in law driving at the time, had to give instructions over the phone whilst car was on the hard shoulder. Fortunately I have put a piece of PVC tape tab on the fuse and have quite a few spares in the glove box.

This is the first time its blown whilst driving at speed. Every other time its done it when stationary or nearly stopped.

Got car home and it blew another 3 fuses whilst parked up, but tried again a few hours later and its fine.

Checking in the handbook and it gives a list of items controlled by fuse 15, unfortunately they nearly all appear to be wrong.

Fuse 15 does NOT control the reverse lamps, seat and mirror adjustment, info display, control indicators or instrument illumination as listed in the handbook, They all still work with the fuse pulled.

I have not checked (yet) the level control (the relay is pulled anyway) the alarm system, cooling fan or headlight range adjustment. Its too dark at the moment.

Does anyone have a correct list of item connected with fuse 15 as the book appears to be wrong

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CDR 500 radio code
« on: 14 March 2010, 17:15:57 »
Working on the wife's Astra today. Pulled the fuse for the radio by mistake. Now radio gone into safe mode.

I've tried the radio code we got with the car but it didn't work, then I found it was for a CAR400, looked in the handbook again and found another Radio Pass for a CDR500, I've tried this but still doesn't appear to work. I'm now down to 7 attempts.

Pulled radio out to check against Pass Code and radio ser. number all seam to tie up.

Question. Do I now have to leave the radio on for a length of time before entering the code, the book says push AS button when switching on till you hear a bleep, as yet I don't think I've heard a bleep except when the code been entered.

The wife not going to be very happy without her radio if I have to send it away :-(

Trying to do a bit of fault finding.. Wondered if i can run the car without the dash installed.

I think it will throw up an air bag fault but is this all.. And will it need a Tech 2 to correct it.

28
Need some hep here guys.. Just driven down 600 miles down in France near Alp D'Huez and having problems with fuse 15 keeps blowing. This I believe does loads of thinks but mainly the panel lights and the ECU.

I have had problems in the past with the fuse blowing randomly but very rarely but now its happening nearly every time i start the car. Usually around 10 secs after turning on the ignition. Which is  problems because the engine just cuts out.

But, it has only ever done this when the car is stationary never moving..

The question is what an cause this to happen. What comes on a few seconds after the ignition comes on. But not when the car is moving.

I have just tried running without the A/C on which has stopped the fuse blowing but that maybe coincidence.

Any ideas would be welcome. Unfortunately I don't have any wiring diagrams with me but I do have a meter...

Just off to ride my bike up Les Deux-Alpes, Ill check back later on... Thanks..

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / TMC (Traffic Message channel)
« on: 18 September 2007, 17:48:58 »
Having changed my car from a preface lift with a trafficmaster fitted. I now have a facelift with a Siemens 2013 satnav/radio fitted. It has whats called TMC but has remained silent since I've had it.

Has anyone had any success with this, as far as i can find out Classic FM is the only station to broadcast traffic info but there's nothing listed in the messages.
