Title: Driver's door lock problem
Post by: terry paget on 23 August 2019, 21:20:20
V reg. 2.5 manual estate
Daughter arrives home 9pm today announcing she could not get out of driver's door, had to slide across and disembark through front passenger door.
I insert key in driver's door lock, turn it after a struggle, honker goes off, I insert key in ignition, start engine, honker stops. Door now opens with inside lever, and with outside lever. Door shuts normally. Inside push down lock is missing, I find it under driver's seat. I fail to pull up rod, despite using pliers. I also cannot push rod down.

Failed driver's door lock unit?

1. Alarm sounded because the car was deadlocked with a double press of the remote.

2. Lock pin rod may well be out of its lever on the lock mechanism.

3. Lock mechanism may be starting to seize.

4. Lock motor might be on its way out.

1 is normal behaviour, unlocking with remote would also have worked, interior handle is disconnected as normal part of deadlocking process.
2 and 3 can be checked and rectified/lubricated once door card is off... 4 may as well throw a new cl motor in the door whilst dealing with 2/3 ;)

I would politely suggest sooner rather than later  ;)

Thanks for the advice Doc. Just checked. Doors all lock and unlock normally on the remote, and with the key. Pushing down the button in the driver's door also causes all the doors to lock, and pulling it up again opens them all. Normal service seems to have been restored. Tomorrow daughter will return to London in the recently purchased and serviced red Astra, leaving the Omega here.

My current problem is coolant loss in the Vectra. I have just added a litre of coolant to the header tank. I fear head gasket failure. I must remove the grille next.
