Initial impressions are good.  Pretty easy to setup, very big print area, sturdy build.  Had to switch away from cura which the forums suggest it has trouble connecting to so it took a bit of time getting used to easyprint instead. Its a bowden extruder so i am tweaking the settings to stop the stringy mess between gaps.  For the price i am quite impressed.

I've done it with the scuttle on but only because time was pressing.  For your first time I would take it off considering how easy it is.

I used to get my Dad's hand me downs so back in '89 I got a custom 286 with 4mb RAM and a whopping 200mb hdd running DR DOS 6.  While it was his I wasn't supposed to use it but had been for years after he showed me how to hack the password on such computers after he got it from somewhere else.  Him being away all week helped too :D   I had to say that we learnt DOS in school (big fat lie) to avoid getting in to trouble ::)  I was still using it in '93 when I finally was upgraded to a 386 before winning a 486 DX2 in the first year at uni which remained my PC until I graduated where, working and living in france, I treated myself to a Pentium 2 with the obligatory froggy keyboard.  Took me longer to unlearn that keyboard and switch back to QWERTY than it did to learn it in the first place.

Why don't drones have to pay air tax and have insurance?  Surely they should also have number plates on them so we can trace the owner ::) ;D
Personally, I wouldn't fly without insurance, and unless you're just playing with a 50m range toy in your garden, anyone would be mental not to take out a policy.

If its with malicious intent, I'm sure any identifying marks would be removed or faked, including electronic ones.

Sorry for not replying sooner, it took a while to get my tongue out of my cheek  ;) :y

Merry Xmas all. Hope you all have health and a tree full of pressies :)

I haven't ventured down yet to see id Santa has been, as I've been struck down with something nasty - akin to deadly manful, but without the cold like symptoms - just shivering, chunder zone, immense tiredness and lethargicness.  And working out how to get out of the bath.

When I succeed, need to decide with bed or sofa is to be my slot for the rest of the day.

I have something similar but I think I am over the worst of it.  The shivering sweats last night weren't pleasant but the Morrisons nasal spray is remarkedly effective at keeping the airways open.

I've gone with a Geetech A30 with the optional capacitive z-axis sensor.  Should be here in a couple of days.  Looks like I will have to play about with the settings to get it working right but nothing that I can't do after using the prusa clone for a couple of years.

Having little space I get harassed about my Prusa i3 which is steadily printing my first RC aircraft (aka drone).  I may have to upgrade to get a metal frame one which allows me to easily dismantle for storage between prints.  Of course, it would be rude not to upgrade the bed size, printing area and head while I was at it :y

News says police marksmen are at the scene. Ideally they should be at the scene of the houses of whoever owns the drones.

I can understand them not using bullets to shoot these things down, but a 12 guage with suitably small sized pellets will reduce the effective danger range enough to bring down the drone and not cause issues beyond the firing zone.

Trespass, but it's a civil offence so it is likely to cost you a lot.

I wonder if Rog has a Parrot?  ???  ;D
I read about this clever boy over the weekend. Gotta love animals.

Indeed, one of the alexas does occasionally get triggered by the tv, and not on amazon's adverts either.

You can get it to turn the lights on and off, control your heating....all sorts. But then you have to connect insecure light bulbs and stuff (IOT) to the www, all of which have default passwords of 123 or ABC.  ;D

Depends on how/what you connect for that to be an accurate statement.  I use Z-wave products which do not have a default password, nor an IP address, but the controller is on a raspberry pi.  Z-wave are only vulnerable during the few seconds of the pairing process and even then it is very difficult to exploit and not all z-wave products are exploitable.

I have a second raspberry pi which is connected to a number of sensors around the house on the windows and doors, PIR, CCTV, etc.  When the house alarm is set and one of the sensors is triggered my phone goes off, when the alarm is not set the lights follow you around the house.  We have a of couple of Alexas around the house which are connected to the z-wave and the speaking smart home works ok, not brilliant yet but it is improving.  I am building a new alexa for the bathroom with another raspberry pi, this is pretty easy and cheap.  All the smart home raspberry Pi and Echo traffic is filtered so none of it can be used for nefarious activities even if a hacker pwns one of them.  The whole network at home is monitored with the Security Onion.

An Arduino monitors the garden moisture level and waters it for me in the summer.

I have just bought a Ring and I am looking to make my own Echo Show for it and I am building a smart mirror.
