Title: Looking very soon - Cheap Auto
Post by: MAMS on 07 April 2009, 17:44:42
After the omega went belly up i got a cheap VW Golf which has done me well but the gearbox is on it's last legs and i really really want another Omega :)

Has to be an auto, preference for either the 2.0 or tractor as i'm a poor student nowadays and need the fuel economy :)

My student loan is paying for it :) so end of April ish

Other than that  spec etc not too fussed, has to be running tested and taxed with at least a few months on each.

Budget - err as low as possible - hoping under £500

I am looking to sell mine - 2.5 auto '98 S plate, 94k.

New oil pump, DIS & HT leads, cambelt kit & valves (after previous one went) - runs superbly. MOT to Dec 2009. (passed last one with flying colours)

Downside is body work - usual rust spots on rear arches/ door and couple of scrapes from the car park.

If you are keen, post back and I will put up some pictures.  :y

Although it looks like a nice drive.

Multimap measures the carbon footprint in "a small car" for this journey as 126kg. I guess the meggy would give out slightly more!

would depend on the route my navman would come up with but i reckon sitting on the M6 would be a much easier drive up for me :)

Sorry i've been noseying about is this a 2.5V6? i assumed 2.5 tractor?

I'm not wanting a 2.5 - i'll be doing a bit of running about at college and the fuel economy is a big issue so no way i could afford to run the 2.5 with all the mileage...unless the v6 is somehow more economic than the 2.0 ???

how bad is the fuel economy? i reckon it's going to cost too much for me to run though in comparision to a 2.0 or tractor???

ha ha ha yeah i know - it was just me thinking a v6 would be half the fuel economy of the 2.0 but it looks pretty much the same :)

Anything else you need to know?

Just ongoing slight coolant loss & coolant warning constantly on - However, will take weeks between top ups, garage have not been able to fix this (suspect HBV). Had rad pipes replaced recently

Other work done: Engine valves, Cambelt, Oil pump, DIS pack & HT leads, Brake light switch.

As I said, the engine is superb, so smooth and quiet.

Road Tax till end-september, MOT till December. :y

I 'may' have a 2.5TD Auto Elite (R Reg) for sale shortly if interested? It will be slightly above your budget, but you dont find that many TD Elites! - Has all the toys! Electric everything / Leather / Xenons to name a few!

I got it as a little project, which was going to replace my 3.0 v6. However I cant part with my 3.0 so I dont know what to do yet  :-X But one has to go.  :'(

Ive had it on the road just under a week as a little test for myself, and its quite nice to drive. Still got to change the engine oil + filter + coolant. And I've got new brake pads waiting to be fitted (both front and back) and then a brake fluid change.

Its a darkish blue met colour too. Haven't got round to taking photos yet, Like I said, I've not had it that long!

I plan on doing the above work to it, and then insuring it for another week. I will then decide if i'm keeping or not. If its for sale, it will be the end of this month / start of next.

Drop me a PM for more details.  :y
