Changing a front wheel bearing on a 206 and the circlip is well and truly stuck in the groove... Any hot tips for removing it?

A lot of swearing followed by losing an eye.
(No good tips - I broke several drifts trying to get stuck circlips out of the propshaft UJs when disassembling the Jag.. managed not to lose an eye, though)

I use a die grinder and grind a groove in the hub where the join in the clip is so a screwdriver can get behind the clip,they are a pain in the as on peugeots :-\

I can get a grip on it but it just won’t budge... Starting to get the hump now! ::)

Can you get a drill bit to it, cut it in half?

What, the car? In the sea? Following a departure from the top of beachy head? :y
Actually, I was thinking that breaking it might be a good option, as long as you can get more circlips, but a bit of plus gas might be worth a try.

Yes :y
A good squirt of plus gas.
Leave for a bit.
Give it a good tap all around the clip with hammer then oil it again.
Go back later when oil has worked its way between the clip and grove and bobs your auntie :y

Been working it in all suggested ways... Will let it soak overnight and if it doesn’t free off this time I’ll heat it up ::)

We are all allowed one silly suggestion, so here's mine!
Put a pointed tool/bit in a hammer drill and try to hammer it free, operating on the open end of the circlip to try to push it around.
If that gets it moving - job done? :y

Beachy Head is a good shout ::) but I was thinking about limiting anger damage to the hub carrier ;)

But have you lost an eye yet? ;)
I got the (much smaller) circlips moving by levering one end out and then using a screwdriver to 'walk' the rest of it out far enough that it could come flying out like some kind of tiny un-guided missile.. (and then we had to weld bolts on to the bearings to get those out ;D)

So they didn't build the suspension to fall apart! Shame about the bodywork, really. ;D

The bits that were basically holdovers from the 1960s were built like a tank.. the bodywork designed in the 1980s was made out of tissue paper and good intentions ;D

If I could get any movement on it then I’d try that!

If you have a fine cutter, can you cut across the clip 180 degrees so its in 2 parts ?
That way, the spring tension should work in your favour and it should prise out easier :y

Just an update... Resorted to a bit of heat in the end and it popped out fine... Wish I’d Dug out the gas bottles earlier now ::) Although I suspect the overnight soaking helped too
