That my crank sensor is about to die.  Symptoms are as follows:

1.   Took three goes to start the car today.  Subsequent starts (2) were fine
2.   Sometimes the EML extinguishes immediately, on other occasions, like all the starts today, it takes            longer (around 3 - 5 seconds) to go out.

I have not done the paperclip test as yet.

Can anyone comment on my diagnosis please?

Back a day early from my week away on the Isle of Wight, so decided to do the paperclip test.

Sure enough, code 19 is present so I will take a walk to the stealers to get a new sensor.

I did the test twice, firstly with the engine stopped and then with it running.  I got different codes as follows:

Engine Stopped:

13  Oxygen Sensor No change in volt / open circuit
15  Coolant Temp Sensor High Volt
19  RPM Signal Incorrect

Engine Running:

19  RPM Signal Incorrect

So, question is, is this normal or have I got other things to worry about?

My X25-XE has failed the MoT because of excessive emissions
Diagnostic showed the same codes you described when engine stopped
but no codes when running but the e m l does come on intermittently
check of values of both sensors after failure of MoT showed both oxy sensors operating close to each other and engine running Lean except when throttle blipped when it when rich.
The tester and I are baffled

You need to find out what's causing the EML light to come on. It will be one of the faults logged and indicated when the engines not running.

Your emissions could be an exhaust leak before the O2 sensor. (Lets air in confuses the O2 sensor and ECU).
