Exhaust pipe bracket V6
« on: 24 August 2019, 19:13:56 »

Do I really need this bracket?

I guess its purpose it to prevent some vibration noise.

Given how cheaply GM build their cars, it wouldn't be there if it wasn't needed... ::)

I haven't either done it on the ones I have had. Thought I should now since I have had some vibration noise when it wasn't mounted.

This bracket with 2 U clamps is on all my V6 's.
Given that it only takes a couple of minutes to refit it on a new exhaust, is there any reason NOT to fit it?

It wasn't fitted to my V6 & I removed and replaced the original exhaust  ???

I never got round to replacing it on mine after the last exhaust change about a year ago (was meaning to get some new U bolts) and the new exhaust was never quite as refined as a new one normally is, so I wonder if it does damp out a bit of vibration between the two pipes. :-\

On my first V6 the clamps had eaten through the pipes from salt and rust. It wasn't broken apart but enough to leak exhausts and noise.

No they became like that when I unscrewed them. It is also a hassle to get them off and on since they are spayed apart for some reason and that trashes the threads.

I decided to skip them.

As with most U bolt fasteners, if they are over tightened then the clamp suffered as a  result. The support bracket is stainless but the U clamps are mild steel.
According to the EPC, they were fitted to 2.5, 2.6, 3.0 and 3.2 models.
I personally would refit them (new clamps should be readily obtainable anywhere) as the set up supports and correctly positions the centre pipes in relation to each other.
The support bracket is 24441393, and the clamps 24442484 with M8 nuts - both NLS.
Like as stated previously , all my F/L V6's still have them fitted.

Mine are missing then, too!  ???

Going to fit a new Cat v soon, so may decide to 'retrofit' this, if I can source a suitable one.

Exactly where do these go - I presume on the cat section?  :-\

The bracket was on a 2.5 V6. However might have been the cats? I remember it because the ends of the clamps were splayed as you mentioned. This made it hard to get off and even harder to get back on. I think I used new clamps from the local factor or maybe I ran a die over them. I don't think the clamp came up on EPC when I ordered a complete cat back exhaust and fittings, Tradeclub from a dealer. Else I would have had a new one.

If you put the above part numbers in the EPC, I'm sure they will show up in the listing.
It also comes up as the first picture in Google images - the exploded diagram shows the bracket and clamps.

Indeed they are in the EPC, however in the section concerning the catalytic downpipes. So that implies the clamp assembly is intended to tie the two cats together.

The clamp is not shown in the section that details the centre pipes and boxes or the rear silencer. That perhaps explains why I didn't get one when I bought a genuine exhaust and fittings and I was annoyed at having to straighten and re-thread the clamp.

Several posts mention that the clamp assy, when fitted, belongs on the centre pipes. And I am saying that I've experienced one fitted on a 2.5 V6, I can't remember where exactly positioned.

The point being that parts are not just for facelift cars.
