Title: Can I Reuse Wishbone Bolts (and nuts)
Post by: polilara on 22 October 2018, 04:23:52
So question is already in header, new wishbones did not have bolts, old seem good, free of rust, like galvanized.

Furthermore how about the ball joint bolt and nut? New wishbone have ball joint but not bolt.

I believe that due to their tightening specification the bolts cannot be guaranteed to be ok for reuse due to the strain they go under.  That said you might be lucky.  The real question, do you want to risk it for the same of a tenner(?)?

Omega suspension bolts are mated with nuts that have an an oval distorted thread.
Quote
The top of the nut is compressed to form a 360° oval-shaped locking zone. Nuts twist freely on a bolt or stud until they make contact with the locking zone. Then they expand to an almost circular shape, creating locking compression.
These nuts are a use once design as in theory used nuts can't be reused as they can't be accurately re-tightened to the required stating torque, prior to any subsequent angle tightening.

So clean undamaged bolts are fine to reuse but in an ideal world you should use new nuts.

Have fitted new and good used on various Omegas. Not noticed any difference one way or tother as to how the suspension goes back together, although new bolts are a bit easier to spot if you drop one into the subframe... :-X

I made a tool using a wire coathanger to drop the bolts in.  Never lost a single one :y

OK; thanks for all comments, perhaps I buy new - depending on availability, delivery time etc:

1. Wishbone bolts/nuts
2. Bolt and nut for ball joint

Any ideas where to get them in ebay etc, before I go to local dealer here which might be the most expensive one.

Have always reused the nuts n bolts, and I'm still here. Refit them and bang em up.

Ok, "bang em up" might mean that have to tighten them well, e.g. 200Nm?
I know new 120Nm+30+15 degrees

It's just slang; he probably means he just does them up tight and doesn't worry about them.
