Chaps
I have done all my searches to no avail
Does anybody have accurate weights for the 2.5 v6 lump and the manual gearbox ?
trying to work out some spring rates for the car and need some decent figures
thanks
-
mine is getrag 240 and according to net weights 80 lbs =36.29 kg..
will check the engine
-
I found C25XE as 176 kgs (without ancillaries) .. so 180 kgs of prediction wont be wrong for spring rates..
-
Thanks CEM
36kgs for the gearbox seems a bit light though, i would have though it heavier.

compared to ar25 or ar30 yes.. they are light.. but if you carry them alone not that light ;D
when I first time carry ar25(me and someone) I thought its over 150 kgs ;D but actually its around 80 kgs but you feel its bloody heavy :o
-
please excuse my butting in but i consider that 80 kgs is rather heavy or was the last time i put 1.5+ cwt on my back! (for those of us old enough to remember old money !) good luck to cem and mind that Back.

no, that's about right - they're surprisingly light.

Thanks for the replies guys
nice light gearbox then :)
should help keep the total weight of the car down and maintain balance

the best advantage of manual is that your car is not applying half clutch while accelerating (till 80 kms/hr) ;D :D

i think i understand what your saying, yes you are right. and in the kit car its important to get the power straight down.
i think my target gross weight of 650kgs for the car is achievable

yep.. personally I can recommend to use this T6 alum as much as possible
its an aluminium alloy with zinc, magnesium, copper, iron, chromium and titanium..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7075_aluminium_alloy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7075_aluminium_alloy) .
its strength is close to steel
density 2.8 gr/cm3 where as iron has 7.87 g/cm3
and price not that steep.. :y
ps: can be found in all useful size and shapes..

CEM
already using it, have been for a few years
T6086 and T6087
very light and good strength

I was to weigh x25xe. Without flywheel, exhaust manifold, alternator, power steering, ac compressor and oil is 150 kg
