2,4,6 coilpack
« on: 02 February 2019, 11:16:59 »

Mines finally got to the point were its backfiring at idle on gas and throwing up a few codes in the process.
Gas map and other bits and bobs are working fine as far as I can tell.

I take it we (the forum) are still recommending Bosch ?
If so, where is the best place / price to get one please ?

Cheers Nads

I would always be inclined to go for Bosch, although there are NGK coil packs available, and given NGK's quality / reliability with standard spark plugs, you would think their coil packs should be of the same standard.....but if there was a Bosch available, I think I would still go for the Bosch.
Whilst on the topic of Bosch coil packs, I have seen the 246 side advertised for a Vectra 3.2, but with the part no 0221 503 473, whereas the Omega is 0221 503 027.
The only visible difference is that the sealing rubber around the coil pack listed for the Vectra is light grey whereas the Omega is black (they both have the grey plug).
On the Bosch website, the 135 pack for the Vectra and Omega is listed as the same pack, whereas the 246 has the two different part numbers for the two vehicles.
Anyone any knowledge of the difference? I know someone who has put the above Vectra pack in an Omega and it appears to be running ok.
I wondered if the difference was an improved sealing rubber, as we all know the issues with possible water ingress (when fitted in an Omega)?

Reuse the seal off the old pack... It's only a different seal because the 246 side on the Vectra C is potentially exposed to the elements as it is located across the front of the engine  ;)

The seals physically looked the same - apart from the colour.
If your theory about being more exposed to the elements on a Vectra is correct, then this would also have potential benefits on an Omega........

There is a supposedly new but unboxed 2,4,6 Bosch 0221503473 coil pack for a Vectra available here for £29 delivered. Looks a bargain to me.

I think it does have a Bosch logo. It's mostly out of shot on the left hand side of the photo. Bosch will be just like everybody else, they have parts made all over the world including Slovenia and South Africa. Especially once the product goes aftermarket only, which is the case here.

So I'd be surprised if this is not a genuine Bosch product.

The only difference between Omega B and Vectra C on the 2,4,6 bank seems to be the colour of the seal. DG suggests that the Vectra seal is more weatherproof. It can't be electrically different. And as mentioned above somebody else has the Vectra part running on an Omega. However at £29 it's less than half the cost of a Bosch from elsewhere. Worth a punt maybe?

I don't think there is any need to even change the seal as I believe they are dimensionally the same - possibly improved sealing maybe.
The old seal is more likely to be slightly deformed from use and if water has been in the plugs wells then a new seal has to be an improvement?
Maybe the result / opinion when fitted could be posted?

When I have replaced original factory Bosch coil packs fitted in Omegas, they were marked 'Made in Germany', however newer genuine Bosch replacements supplied by Vauxhall or direct from Bosch have been marked 'Made in Slovenia'.
Probably, a different supplier to Bosch, but no doubt still made to Bosch standards. I have not any issues with 'Slovenia' made coil packs.

Coil pack changed.
Left grey seal on as seemed to be a tighter fit.
Plug wells dry.
Faint backfire on lpg now gone  :y

Off upto Whitby for a couple of nights this Tuesday to play with my new camera wife's birthday.
I'll take the laptop and associated leads and keep a eye on it but definitely seems better  :y

Cheers Lads  :-*
