Slapped some gun gum on the back box / pipe weld area to stop a minor blow on the daily, the car goes in for MOT end of October and I really CBA to spend any more money on it until I know what the MOT picks up over and above what I know will need doing on it.
you could always check it over BEFORE MOT and see what it needs  ;D
I never take a car for MOT unless i think it will pass
obviously you can't check emissions easily but pretty much everything else is check-able without specialist equipment
I tend to take each wheel off in turn, check that area, strip and clean the brakes, clean up everything ,lube and rust protect ,check suspension, then check the lights, wipers, horn, belts etc
it takes time though ,which i appreciate not everyone has much of lying around unused  :P

I know most of what it needs, I'm capable of doing most of the work and I can do most of the checks, the point is that I want to just put it through and see if there's any other items that it will fail on that render it scrap - eg. I know the outer sills will be crusty but I won't be taking the plastic covers off to check beforehand and while I have a new pair of them there is no point spending the money on doing all the jobs I know about on this car for it to fail on something else (It's 18 years old and has 238K on the clock). I have two other 3.2's that will pass, and the time has come to move on to something else that's more fuel efficient and in a lower road tax bracket as a daily given the current job changes that have been forced on me. All I was thinking is if it got a ticket with minimal work and cost I would then just use it over the winter then it can go in the barn as a parts car to sort the others.

Freshly serviced with no EML is usually enough to ensure an emissions pass ;)

Presenting a car with borderline tyres or a light out is unnecessary. May as well present it in a roadworthy state :y

Yep, all my cars have decent tyres with plenty of tread on and working lights (although why does the number plate lamp always fail when it's driven onto the test ramp?!), like yourself I tend to do plenty of motorway miles so these checks are done regurlarly.  :y

Emissions was only ever an EML issue before the Lambda's were moved  ;D

I think I've had seven over the years  ::) I must be a glutton for punishment lol.

I still rate them but you can't save them all and I'd be happy to keep the other two for a while yet as they are in good order. With the current work situation it would be sensible to have something more frugal but still maintain the effortless mile munching motorway ability that the Omega has....

'F'row
It
Away
Today

Terminally
Rotten
Inconsequential
Useless
Mangled
Pathetic
Heaps

etc

This is the real reasonwhy Vauxhall was chosen as the brand name, as it's very difficult to use the 'X'. Xerothermic isn't applicable, no matter how hard you try ::)
