I am sure there must be one, but can someone kindly direct me to a suitable "live with ignition ON" wire in the overhead panel of a '51 plate 3.2 Elite saloon?

TIA :y

General Discussion Area / 2G mobile signal booster
« on: 15 July 2019, 22:34:26 »
I have a gps watch/communicator (think Dick Tracy) that uses 2G on any available network, however we don't get any decent mobile network signal indoors, so I have to use wifi on my mobile. Can anyone recommend a way to help get a signal indoors? Booster advertised seem very pricey. :-\

They looked more painful than the crack on the head. Now home slowly recovering....I hope. :(

« on: 18 April 2019, 19:07:59 »
In the 9 years I've owned the 3.2, I've never had the EM light on. Took it in with no light on for its MOT today, after giving it an Italian tune-up. It passed with one advisory, EM light on >:(. What did they do? WOT didn't bring it on for me. >:( >:( >:(

I have spent countless hours clicking on pictures of traffic lights, bicycles, buses etc. trying to access some previously easily accessible sites. >:( >:( >:( I've given up on some, (including Topcashback, which is annoying) as life is too short. Has anyone discovered a way around these tedious systems?

General Car Chat / Dashcam
« on: 05 March 2019, 12:31:15 »
I have had a dashcam for a while, but never needed to look at the card yet. A friend just had a new Lexus, and had them put one in, and it came with instructions that to comply with some law he must put stickers on all points of entry to the vehicle, stating that it is/may be recording! Is this now the law? If so I guess I need some stickers. >:(

General Discussion Area / Any experts on Consumer Rights?
« on: 22 February 2019, 20:36:54 »
In December 2018 I had a pair of patio doors fitted. There are draughts from under the bottom of the fixed panel, and also from the vertical join with the sliding section.
I complained within a week to the supplier, who came after Christmas and refitted the doors. They are still draughty and are unacceptable. I have told the supplier, who says he will fit a different type at cost price, but still expects me to pay for the faulty doors. I have told him (outside the 30 days, but I did report the faults almost immediately) that I reject the doors as unfit for purpose and that they are of unsatisfactory quality. I have not paid for them. He also says I cannot have them replaced by another installer as they are his property.
Where do I stand legally? Can I have them replaced by another installer?

Test Zone / Changing Diff oil
« on: 24 December 2018, 17:13:39 »
A suggested cheat amendment to Mark's guide which I used successfully on both mine to avoid splitting the case.
With the car jacked as in the guide, remove the filler plug, and using an extractor pump and tube, remove the old oil, then use an appropriate filler bottle to fill with the correct amount and type of replacement oil. :y

General Car Chat / Roadside repairs
« on: 09 December 2018, 11:24:47 »
I was musing on how much easier it was in my early days of motoring. A friend returning from leave in a pre-war Austin 10 or similar, threw a big end. He pulled into a lay by, drained and dropped the sump, fitted a set of big-ends, and still got back to camp without sanction. While cars are of course mechanically much more reliable these days, the sort of problems we encounter causing breakdown are exponentially more difficult to fix without suitable spares and equipment. :(
