WANTED: Headlight Switch
« on: 18 August 2009, 08:33:43 »

Hi,

Does anyone have a headlight switch for a '99 2.5 mini-facelift? I've tried in various places and keep getting sent the wrong one, it needs to have both fog light switches (front and rear) and also the headlight leveller.

Thanks :)

No, it was after I fitted this that I lost all the dash lights :( I'm completely puzzled as to what is wrong, it looks like I'm going to have take it to an Auto Electrician.

Have you still got your 'lights-left-on-buzzer'? Reason for asking is that my car has the buzzer in the passenger footwell, others, including our Astra G's, have the buzzer built into the light switch somewhere.
HAve you still got the old swich? Try re-fitting that & see what happens to your lights, I'd be looking at the rheostat  :-/  :y

yep the 'lights left on' buzzer is still there, from the sound of it it's built into the switch, I have still got the old switch but the dash lights don't work with that now either, they did before I swapped the switches.

I'm thinking it is the rheostat, but what are the chances of both switches failing with the same fault? gonna try a local vauxhall breakers in the morning see if he has any switches and try another one, if that doesn't sort it out then I think it'll be a job for an experienced auto electrician, just saying that makes my wallet tremble :(

I seem to remember someone saying about the contacts that the switch pushes into, have you checked that one isn't bent or pushed out the back as like you say odd to see 2 switches suddenly go the same way especially as the first one worked the lights OK :-/.

PS. When i swapped mine the one i received to replace it didn't have the locating pins on it(not broken, just made without)and was a hell of a job to line up all the pins which were slightly twisted ::).

I'll have a look at the back of the connector again in a while, I did have a quick look at whether any terminals had pushed through but another check won't hurt.

Both switches went in with hardly any drama, nice tight but not too tight fit

Thanks

Had a look and it all looks okay to me, went to a local breaker and tried another switch but still no joy :( I've booked it into a local auto sparks on Wednesday to be diagnosed.
