Title: Dash display
Post by: Malcolm_D on 16 May 2018, 07:28:53
The computer display on my 2.6 Elite has gone nuts! Randomly will start flashing, lots of colourful strips appear, sometimes it just goes grey. If I give the dash a thump it will sometimes return to normal - loose connection?
Strangely enough the display in my 55 plate Sorento does the same!

Any ideas / suggestions?

The LCD screen needs resetting on it's connection. Or the LCD ribbin has a bad connection. Switch cleaner or liquid flux with a old tooth brush should clean the ribbon without damaging it. And refit the screen. Even sometimes heating the back with a hair dryer can fix them but don't hold it on for to long.

Presuming this is a Colour screen ( as only CID's will show grey when faulty)
Common fault with CID screens . Comes on with age , sadly it wont improve , eventually from experience, banging on the dash will cease to re instate to norm .
I believe a new screen can be fitted but don't think the screen is the problem here.
I did have one repaired once & as I recall it was dry /broken joints where the ribbon cable was joined / soldered to the PCB. This is micro soldering so quite specialised. But the repair was successful although not cheap  :'( :'(

Other Oofers with more knowledge of these CID failures  will be able to add to this.

Its where the ribbon joins the lcd panel, and sadly not repairable (without very specialist equipment)

Only solution is a new panel (or if you have access to a tech2, a depaired replacement cid)
