Omega General Help / Re: Facelift ashtray won't close.

And it's job done  :)
There was a small piece of plastic broken off from somewhere - possibly the flap where the cd cartridge inserts, because I've noticed that's a bit floppy on one side. The piece of plastic was obviously preventing the ashtray from closing. All good now. Looks so much better.

Just a quick query. The ashtray on my facelift will not close.
Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?
Also, I'd like to know how to remove it completely. My Haynes manual is for a prefacelift and doesn't cover my car.
Thanks.
Have a looksie in the "Test" section :)

That was helpful, cheers guvnor.
A little job for this week, methinks.

Toyota Previa every time.
I've got an old K reg petrol auto. Never failed an mot. THE most reliable car I've ever owned.
It's going back on the road on June 1st while I sort out the niggles on the Omega.
I don't think I'll ever sell it.

Remove "ash" tray part (small lever to right) look at the rear and undo the screw in the centre.
Not closing is either something jammed, spring on catch mech come adrift, or catch mech busted.
If it`s busted I`ve got 3 here lying around :)

That's good to know, thanks mate.

Right, that's one side done. The other side is blowing as well, so I've booked it in for next Monday to have that sorted. Good news is, the manifold gaskets themselves are ok apparently. Phew. They took photos of the blow and showed them to me when I collected the car. Not a bad service really.

I used these people a couple of weeks ago:

£11.99 + p&p. I posted it to them on Wednesday and received it back on Friday. Excellent service.

Well, I've been a lorry driver for 36 years now. I'm fully aware of the damage 44tonnes can do.
To say you shouldn't expect a high standard of driving is almost a criminal offence in itself.
The British public should expect nothing less from me when I'm at the wheel of my lorry.

And it looks like the winner is going to be.......the Toyota.
I worked last night, got up early this morning to have a bash at spraying contact cleaner on the connection, but when I realised how much stuff has to be removed, I had to abandon the job. I've been offered a replacement abs unit on here, but it's a little bit expensive for me. I could get myself a cheaper one, but not an exact match for the car, and no-one round here with tech 2 to put it right, so basically, I'm stuffed.
I'm not sure about the exhaust blow now either. Is it the manifold to downpipe o ring or the manifold to head gasket, I can't be sure. Can I warrant spending money next Monday, only to have the same problem afterwards?
The tax runs out at the end of the month and that's the deciding factor. I'm not going to re-tax it without solving these problems first, so the future of the cdx is decidedly shaky. The mot runs out on June 20th, and obviously won't go through as it is.
So, it looks like the Previa bus is going to get another airing, which is not a bad thing really, it's the most reliable and versatile car I've ever owned.
I'm absolutely gutted really, because I really like the cdx, it looks lovely polished up, and is basically a good car.
I can't even offer it up for sale on here because of my post count, so it'll probably be parked in my front garden and I'll do the work as and when.
Ho-hum.

If it's the manifold gasket, the car will definitely be kicked into touch. It's teetering on the brink as it is.
