Cloned the existing HD to a portable HD.

Going to fit the SSD in the morning and try a clean install of Win 10.

If that fails, I'll re-install the HD, then clone it to the SSD.

Knowning my luck, it won't be that straightforward  :(
If you start it before Breakfast, should almost be ready by Tea Time.  ;D fresh Win10 off the MS Site seems to take forever these days.  ::)
Win10 1803 install on a 11yr old, Core Duo, 2Gb RAM, Sandisk 240Gb Plus SSD is about 20mins for base install and its going off and getting the drivers.  The cumulative July update takes longer :D

Well, that was a waste of money.

Need to remove the Optical drive first to be able to take off the back cover.

Followed the instructions from the manual and it won't budge! >:(

Spent an hour on it with no success. >:(

As I said, what could possibly go wrong. >:(

One of those Crucials that failed had had really minimal use TBH in Mrs TB's old lappy, and was just over a year old.  The other was about 2yrs old, and had been used in my own desktop which gets less than average use, but is data intensive on the rare occasions it is used.

I think I was unlucky on both occasions, rather than wearing them out - SMART wasn't showing high wear.  My gripe was with Crucial's attitude.

You know, now that you say that - I think the only SSD I've had die was a Crucial.. though it was out of warranty by then, so I just sucked it up and replaced, but it, too, had very minimal use in an HTPC.

So maybe Crucial don't have the best reliability :/ Being a Mac whore now, though, I use whatever Mr Ive tells me to  ;D

My stupid crapbook MacBook I believe has a soldered drive, so gonna be a pain to change.

Not that I would change it, based on the fact the poxy thing is a crock of shite.  Plus because it rarely gets switched on, it needs to do 2-3Gb of update and several slow reboots.

Reading the cloud user HDD/SSD reliability reports and also SSD written to destruction ones the Samsung 3d-nand seem to be the longest lasting most reliable, which is why I paid a bit more and went for one of these as the price difference v hassle cost made it look sensible to pay a bit more. :y

Had a few problems connecting to the Router, after installing Windows.

Had to plug in an ethernet cable to download all the wireless drivers.

Windows update took bloody ages.

Pretty well got it back to how it was, i.e. installing all the software on it.

Found a YouTube video, where the guy took a brand new identical model, unpacked it, then proceeded to take it to bits. Very informative :y
