Omega General Help / Condenser Removal
« on: 04 January 2021, 19:56:26 »
I started taking the plastic cover off the radiator today to look at the condenser with a view to removing and replacing it.

Something I've noticed on this and I don't seem to see on the guide at http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90559.0 or in the part diagram https://opel.7zap.com/en/car/v94/c/7/23-0/ is inbetween the rad and condenser there seems to be what looks like another small radiator or air-con unit with 2pipes that go off to the drivers side and down behind the light.

Check video out where I point out where the unit is and the pipes above it.

https://youtu.be/1H2D9eQPW7I

Any ideas what this is and does it come out with the main condenser. I've looked at my condenser that I got new and it is only the main large unit I have.

Thanks

General Car Chat / Kia Sedona Various Problems
« on: 03 January 2021, 23:08:06 »
Hi

I am trying to help my neighbour with his Kia Sedona 56 plate, it is really slow on pick up and has various issues, including engine light/ABS light and glow plug light flashing, he uses it as a works van basically, going to jobs to do kitchen installs and has used it for years with just basic maintenance as and when needed.

He has traditionally used a local well-recommended garage for MOT, plus a relative he's since fell out with to do repairs etc. and so I mentioned to go and get all the codes read out, apparently the garage said they had a problem actually getting the diagnostic plug to connect up (No idea why, never heard this happening), so he bought a cheap reader now, which I'm certain won't give all the codes out (if it even worked), although I've not tried it.

Does anyone on here know anything about these cars, if they are turbo charged? Also what might be causing engine light on and glow plug lights to flash, it's seems to start ok from cold. I'm thinking engine might be in limp home given the erratic performance. That and/or a problem with turbo perhaps, if it is turbo charged.

Thanks

General Car Chat / Peugeot 2008 carplay rebooting and no key detected
« on: 08 December 2020, 09:32:04 »
My partner usually buys a new pug every 3 years, and just got a new 2008 in August.

Just recently the carplay navigation/infotainment system has been rebooting itself and the garage checked/updated to the most recent software, they also said to use genuine apple cables, however with either the phone connected via apple or 3rd party cable, or disconnected, it will turn itself off then when turning back on it makes this horrible sound through the speakers, what I can only describe as sounding like a snowball hitting the windscreen, like a dull thud sound. Another thing we are now seeing since the update is sometimes the key not detected message, even though the key is right next to us.

Back in to stealership today and they've reported "no fault codes found". How could it be the phone when it does this when the phone isn't even connected?

Any thoughts? It sounds like a hardware intermittent fault, and what is that strange noise when carplay is restarting.

Thanks

General Car Chat / New Headlight.....£1700
« on: 29 October 2020, 15:53:21 »
Had to do a doubletake at this one, guy in work recently had damage to headlight in his 18 plate Audi, can't mind exact model, more up the range one, but it was 1700 just for the light? Is that not insanity squared? That's more than 2 of my cars worth lol!

Omega General Help / Brake pad not contacting whole disc face
« on: 07 October 2020, 15:41:12 »
Any idea why brake pad is no rubbing on whole disc face.

I've just renewed pads/discs and checked sliders were all ok, not seized or sticking, cleaned the whole calipers etc.

Strange how a pad could contact just over half the disc!

The rust spots are just where rain got in the wheels

Omega General Help / Play at steering wheel
« on: 02 October 2020, 07:15:28 »
Last Month or so I've noticed a slight play in steering wheel, sure I heard a clunk noise from it as well one day while turning, and could almost feel it through my hands.

I done a check of the steering box yesterday with car up on ramps and assistant rocking steering side to side (Engine on). Couldn't see any issues with any of the links or anything around the box, no rot near the box, but I could feel a slight clunk through the steering arms, which appeared to be coming from behind the bulkhead area.

I put my hand up under the brake pedal and could feel the UJ thingy and again I could feel this slight clunk but it did seem up more towards the steering wheel. So I'm guessing it's a new bearing at the steering shaft. Has any one done this before is it just a case of steering wheel off, or do I need to change the whole adjuster unit with bearing incorporated in it?

Thanks

Omega General Help / reading VIN codes for parts lists
« on: 30 September 2020, 20:22:50 »
On some of the online parts catalogues there is a, what I am assuming to be, a part of of a chassis no listed saying for [part] [VIN code] like this:

FOR TILTING STEERING COLUMN V1000001-

https://opel.7zap.com/en/car/v94/l/0/6-1/

My chassis number is W0L0VBMXXXXXXXXXX

X being a long number. how does this V1000001 correspond to the chassis number?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Better front brakes
« on: 10 August 2020, 22:23:52 »
Hi

I have known for a while my front discs are buggered, still chunky but one of the calipers was seized a while back and the back of both discs are pitted. Anyhoo I'm thinking of getting a set of mintex front pads/discs. Is this a good buy or recommend any other ones?

Omega 2.6 02.

Cheers

General Car Chat / Electrolysis Tank - Rust Removal
« on: 06 August 2020, 22:59:15 »
Has anyone else set one of these up to put rusty parts in?

I set one up a couple of months ago and it's the best thing I've ever found for removing rust, completely.

I'm now using my blue wheelie bin to put larger parts in  :). Easy to set up, just a sacrifical anode plate and a power supply wired to the anode and the part in the water. Add some baking soda and it starts bubbling the rust off.

Unfortunatley I don't yet have a tank big enough to put whole omega in!!

I just reconnected battery after being on holiday and both light are staying on. I usually disconnect battery when not using car for more than a few days and never had this before.

Going to do pedal test, just wondering what it might be a faulty sensor perhaps?

General Car Chat / Brake Bleeding Question
« on: 29 April 2020, 11:31:14 »
If your system is otherwise fine and you want to change the fluid, a one man bleeder seems to do a fine job, however if you replace a part like a caliper or rear piston, you then need to actually bleed the brakes i.e. until the piston comes back into contact with the disc or drum. Obviously the new part will be set back into it's recess, or placed at a standard position, and it needs to be forced out till it meets the contact surface of the disc/drum etc.

Is there a tool that lets you actually do this job one-man as at the moment you can only bleed the fluid through the new part, using air-pressure on a one-man bleed kit, but not actually push the piston/cylinder back to the contact surface of the pad/disc.

Hi

I've just recently acquired a spot welder 230v rating but need to plug into a fused isolator. My garage has a standard cable from mains consumer unit in house, with a small fuse box in the garage, with 2 fuses. Can an isolator be wired on to the existing supply to the garage or will it need to come from the house CU?

Thanks

Omega General Help / 2.6 Oil Sump - gasket or not?
« on: 02 April 2020, 11:43:05 »
I've read there is no gasket for the sump on the 2.6 so got the appropriate sealer -  93165267. Having a look at diagram this morning it certainly looks like there is a gasket, for the bottom pan and the top plate as well? Can anyone confirm as I want to take both the sump and the upper plate off to seal as I have leak. Diagram here shows gasket no 17 for top, and 26 for bottom pan.

Omega General Help / Brakes crap again
« on: 26 September 2019, 08:07:25 »
Hi

So a couple of months ago I changed the fluid, replaced back discs pads, gave the rear pistons a freeing off, not that they were seized per say, mainly gave them a bit of movement to keep them free moving - the old inny outy!. I also found the slider on F/N/S caliper a bit stuck so freed that off and checked other side, which was ok. After this the brakes had a nice sharp bite to them, for a couple of weeks, then one day it went back to how they were before i.e pedal goes quite far down before bite and more of a shove to stop.

I have noticed on very rare occasion they are back to being good i.e. firm pedal. Could it be air still in the system. I used a ezi-bleed to change fluid.

Omega General Help / Diff Oil Seal 2.6 v6
« on: 25 September 2019, 09:30:49 »
Hi

I'm looking about the site for part number for the diff pinion oil seal. I'm seeing this number bandied about 24435952, see that also here

No 3: https://vauxhall.7zap.com/en/car/v94/m/3/4-1/?detail=24435952#3

However I seen the link to vauxhall car parts for that parrt no. and it says only for the Omega 2.0 > 2.2.

https://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/acatalog/24435952---Vauxhall-Rear-Axle-Pinion-Oil-Seal.html

Is it a different number for the v6 facelift?

Cheers

Andrew
