coin holder anyone use it?
« on: 16 July 2015, 01:32:20 »

the coin holder at the top front of the drivers storage box, to the right of the steering wheel.  are there any coins that fit it? is there a simple mod to make pound coins fit? presumably it was designed for pfennigs.

Mine holds all the memory cards for my MP3 player, never got a coin to stay in there!

I find 1, 2, 5, 50ps fit. (this is handy as I rarely spend more :D) Pound coins roll around underneath and on top of the wad of tissues I keep in there, and of course spring out everywhere when I go to grab a tissue  ;D

I've thought of chopping into it to make some bigger slots, too. Often it's the way that something goes out of use/fashion, but then around the corner there's a new idea or use for it. We've got an oak record cabinet, which has partitions just a fraction wider than a CD holder, so it's got a new use. (plus our old vinyl) I like the sound of the SD holder!  :)

are you using standard SD cards?  i tried that but they stick up too much and stop the unit closing fully.  perhaps you are using microsd cards but i tried those and they are so small they disappear into the slots.

ah that explains it.  sd cards are bigger.

i will try modding mine to hold pound coins.  a blow torch, pound coin and pair of pliers should do the trick :y

right that's sorted - until we join the euro i now have a working coin holder.   mole grips holding the edge of a pound coin, heat the coin with a blow torch, not too hot, and shove it into each existing slot.  trim the melted edges with a sharp knife.  now it firmly holds pound coins.  for 50ps and 20p you might want to use them instead.  the coin cleans up easily so no cost there.
