Right gents this is a big one
the omega i was given by my friend he had lost the keys so i went to vauxhall and got a replacement so i could get in thye car and move it to my gaff. The ecu was knackered thats why he left, ive replaced that but ive been told that i need to get the key reprogrammed in order for the car to start however the key i have has no transponder in it vauxhall have said i must bring the car to them so they can programme it obviously at a right cost do they fit a transponder in it or can i get a mobile mechanic,locksmith to sort it out any ideas

Its a tough one this.
Is there any chance that you can get the Immobilizer unit and key transponder (small black chip) from the car which you got the ECU from as this is by far the easiest option.
Basically, the key transponder is programmed to the Immobilizer unit (which is located around the ignition lock), when the immobilizer detects a known transponder it sends a code to the ECU, the ECU then allows the engine to continue running.
Hence, you would need the transponder programming to the Immobilizer unit and the immobilizer unit programming to the ECU

You could try a mobile auto locksmith - they often have the required equipment...
I can do it, but dorset is a bit far :(

Nice area - was down the Bournemouth/Poole area 3 weeks ago... ...got a soft spot for Swanage, but not sure why!
Alas, no plans to go back again this year...

im not far from there , there should be some mobile ones around here especially in poole so il give them a go 8-)

the transponder is coded to immobiliser which is coded to engine ecu. All parts need to work with each other to work.
If its the ir type system, i believe immobiliser can be bypassed. rf type cant.
to program immobiliser, you need a pin which is part of 'carpass'

Guys reference the programming some south african bloke turned up and re-programmed it in seconds and gave me a new remote all for 60 quid however he said the previous code left on there indicated that it had a speedo fault or something to do with the gear box i know that something does fail on the auto gear boxes and its quite easy to fix if it is that problem any ideas im still waiting for my haynes manual :(

All a bit confued this thread.
If it helps, I have a matching set of ECU, immobiliser collar for the steering column and the all important matching chip. You can use your existing lock set, just this lot to get the car started at least. You would then just have to program the key to your alarm, which can be done from in the car with the ignition on IIRC.
If interested in the ECU and stuff, let me know. I am banging it onto ebay today otherwise. I only just took the collar off, so this may a bit of a lucky break.

Any fault lights lit, the 'code' might be an old stored one.

:-X My appologies guys i was half cut whilst posting the messages.
anyway to clear it up i changed the ecu unit on my 20L 16v ecotec auto and had to get a replacement key from vauxhall as the guy who i got the car from had lost it. Vauxhall said i would have to bring the car to them to get the key /and ecu re-programmed with the immobiliser.Trouble is the car needed to be trailered to vauxhall nearest one 14 miles awaAnyway this bloke reprogrammed everything gave me a new remote.He asked what the prob was with the previous ecu told him previous owner was told it was knackered.When he was re-programming above he said the last stored fault code indicated a speedo/GB fault .

then just have to program the key to your alarm, which can be done from in the car with the ignition on IIRC.
Depends if IR or RF remote. RF needs Tech2.
