« on: 16 April 2013, 22:06:47 »
Hi all I hope you dont mind me posting this, but it is quite important..

Hi i`ve just been diagnosed with the early stages of it, and it frightens the cr*p out of me, does anyone else have it, how do you handle it, has it made a great difference to your life style.
Apparently its called the "silent stealer" because it just creeps up on you,.I thought it was just the cold and wind that was causing my eyes to run and just mentioned it in passing to my Doctor on my last visit, he suggested I visit the opticians sooner than later...., good job I went..
If its caught in the early stages  a simple application of special eye drops daily can significantly slow further damage right down, if it gets left and progresses you are in trouble and it can not be reversed..

I recommend everyone to pay a visit to their opticians asap.

Here endeth the lesson..I dont normally post things like this but felt everyone should be made aware how serious this can get

Alan

And if your over 40 with a blood relation with Glaucoma you get free eye tests. Both my parents had it, kept in check with eye drops..

According to pack we've been sent (Sky one), the fastest riders are expected to complete it in 3 hours, slowest 5 hours  :o

3 hours is good going nearly 19 mph ave, I'm hoping for under 4 hours, but need to get out on my road bike to get some more miles in first, but the weathers just been awful and had too many injuries last/this year..

Exactly what a mate did when he got his!  ;D

Least BHF L2B is in June, really hope weather improves for the Sky one. Some people have done BHF one as well, they said Sky one although on open roads was easier as there were a lot less people

If the wind direction doesn't change you'll get a good tailwind  :)

I did the L2B a few years ago, took me 7 hours !!! we made the mistake of a 9.30am start time. Every hill we came to people were just walking up it, slowed everything to a crawl, this year we have a 6.30am start, hoping to be down there a bit quicker..

Just picked it up at lunch, pedals will get some getting used to. But can already feel benefit as you get power on the up pull as well as the down push.

If you've not used SPD's before then set them nice and loose, I can guarantee that you will forget to unclip and fall off  :) usually at the most embarrassing places, like at the front of a traffic queue...

Everyone does it, just take time to get used to them. I wouldn't be without mine now..

And have fun on the L2B, i'll be there too...

Yup. Same as the tit in a 40 tonner who had the same experience on the M1 a few years back.
