When it has stalled it does tend to be at the lights or waiting at a junction, then would not restart, so yes, I would have been braking or had my foot on the brake pedal, there was no hunting up and down at any time though. The main issue was it randomly not starting when warm. I'm very interested to know why you ask about the foot on the brake pedal and the hunting.

Well, I have just finished installing a new genuine Bosch crank sensor, (that was fun!), nothing visually wrong with the old one, cable looked ok too but heat insulation was crushed and split so it could be that heat is the culprit, I followed the guide on here and routed the new cable away from the exhaust as recommended. So, I will just have to drive it about and see what happens. I did notice that the idle seems smoother now so hopefully that is a good sign. I think the intermittent buzzing behind the dash is probably an unrelated issue which I will investigate next. Will report back soon, and thank you to everyone for the advice.

Sensor is the original from what I know about the cars history, no record of it ever being changed. The buzzing is a new thing, only happened today when trying to restart after it cut out at the roundabout, and again briefly once the car had started, I couldn't pinpoint exactly where behind the dash it was coming from though. Must have a look at the re-routing guide.

I did suspect the crank sensor too, but was not so sure because of the intermittent nature of the problem, I was assuming a crank sensor would just fail completely rather than be susceptible to heat, I had just completed a 25 mile drive home from work when this happened today, also had done the same distance to work this morning with no issues. Have not had the chance to check codes yet.

Hi, not been on her much due to health issues, I have a new problem with my 2001 2.6 estate. over the last 3 weeks it occasionally will not start when warm, but if left for an hour or so it seems to start again quite happily. Last week it cut out at the lights while still cold but started again immediately. Tonight however it cut out while warm as I was waiting to pull out at a roundabout, would not restart, this was accompanied with a buzzing noise from behind the dashboard which sounded like a relay switching really fast, in fact I flattened the battery trying to get it going. I moved it to the side of the road and walked the last mile home, had a cuppa, borrowed the neighbours booster pack and walked back to the car, connected the booster and it fired up immediately, there was a short burst of buzzing from the dash again which went away after a few seconds. Is this possibly the crankshaft sensor on its way out? or could something else be the problem, the fuel pump relay maybe? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

New timing belt and associated pulleys fitted, aux belt tensioner repacked with grease too as it was a bit dry, the cambelt DVD is worth every penny for someone who has not tackled this job before, all back together and running sweetly, timing on both banks was off by a small amount when the cover came off but spot on now. also found a small split in the rubber elbow on one of the vacuum lines to the bagpipes, all repaired and noticeably perkier acceleration now.

I fitted the 3.0 v6 pre facelift cat back exhaust system from ETS on my facelift 2.6 estate, it fits perfectly, as will the 2.5 v6 exhaust, but be aware that the exits from the backbox are slightly shorter as the pre facelift had smaller bumpers, some people add a chrome trim to extend them but I did not and have not had any issues, 3.0 v6 exhaust has twin exit pipes on the backbox, the 2.5 v6 exhaust has a single exit pipe, just depends which you prefer, also be sure to let them know whether saloon or estate as they are quite different.

Just had a look at his car for sale, noticed the Y--- NAB registration number is only a few numbers away from my one, same price as I paid for mine too. Anyone know offhand which area the NAB prefix covers as my reg doc states mine was first registered in Fife.

Hi guys, hope its ok to post this link, just spotted this ad for rear air shocks, don't have them on my motor but I know they are in short supply going by various posts on here, guy states they are new OE and he seems to have a batch of them, but I'm sure you chaps will be able to tell at a glance if they are the real deal. Hope this proves useful.

So just as I was thinking I've not had any omega issues lately, the coolant warning alert has started to come on over the last week, needing topped up every couple of days. Just been investigating and, (Aw Poop! :() it's the HBV dribbling away merrily. So new one ordered today from dealer for me to collect tomorrow. Glad I looked on here first though and got the most recent part no (95517483) or I could have been paying the higher original cost of the old one. Parts counter guy said I would have been if I'd quoted the old number. Once again the OOF site is being a great help. :)

Just to let everyone know, GPS, (genuine parts search) have genuine GM idler arms available at £86.18 inc free delivery. I ordered one yesterday at noon and it arrived today at 11.30, and to confirm, yes, it's a genuine GM part in the box. I've used these guys several times before and not had any problems.

That looks remarkably like the Kioritz Echo chainsaws we used to use and also sell when my family ran our own sawmill, quite probably a licenced copy, certainly the genuine articles were incredibly reliable and durable, and we used them very hard. Personally we used to replace the chains with Oregon branded ones when they wore out, cost a bit more but lasted very well. My hint is don't scrimp on the chain oil use, if there is adjustment for the oil pump keep it set on the higher output side, also when you tension the chain, make sure you have the tip of the bar raised, (when you loosen the locking bolts for the bar it does drop slightly as there is some movement of it on the through studs it locates on) if you hold the end of the bar up while you set the tension it should reduce the rate at which the chain slackens off.

Hi all,
       Thought these might be good for anyone on a budget. I just received a pair of Mintex vented rear discs for the estate, now I know some of you are not very keen on Mintex discs but as I don't do a high mileage or drive that hard, and I always use Genuine GM on the front I reckon they will be fine for me. £47.90 the pair, inc delivery by 24hr courier. I wasn't aware that there were any sleeves/shims on the front carrier slider pins, as far as I know the slider pins fit straight into the drilled slider hole on the caliper carrier, these are greased and have a small rubber boot on them to contain the grease/keep the elements out.
Thinking about it now, the brake pad pins on the rear calipers have a small sleeve/shim on them to hold them in place, perhaps that is what you are referring to. 2001 2.6 facelift estate.
