I have had mine on ramps many times with no problems, but place a piece of wooden board about 1 inch thick before the ramps, this stops the front catching.

Make sure that the pipe that goes to the washers is not kinked or trapped on the passenger side near the scuttle, I had the same problems, and found the pipe trapped.

Omega General Help / Re: Rattle from Automatic Gear knob

Hi I had this, I put a small black cable tie around the gear lever but between the lift up lever, it stopped the rattle, and you dont notice it unless you look closely.

Mine had a small amount of water from the drain being blocked, not half a river in it  ;)

A VAX and a hair dryer did the job of drying everything for me.

Easy enough job to change the door lock solenoid, I managed mine a couple of weeks ago without taking the door handle off.

Omega General Help / Re: Clonking from rear
« on: 07 November 2007, 08:54:14 »
I have had this twice knocking from one side at rear when going around slow corners.

Turned out to be a broken rear spring, a section of coil can break off at the bottom, at first glance you wont notice it, but if you look closely you can tell its broken.

Hi, Check that you have not broken a rear spring.

It will be your fan speed regulator, this is situated behind the passenger glove box on the right hand side, when you get a new one it will be the electronic version and not the mechanical one that shorts out, awkward to do if you have big hands.

Is the noise from the front or rear? If its the rear then you may have a broken rear sping, when mine broke it made some awful noises when cornering uphill.

Omega General Help / Re: Burning Rubber Smell?

Hi all,

I did my 2.6 with the fixed lower idler at the weekend. I have done several 2.5's before with no problems.

I took me 7 times to get the timing right!!  It always seemed to be 1 tooth out, I finally got it spot on by fitting the belt lined up with the crank at TDC, then lined it up with the marks on the cams (as normal), I then rotated the crankshaft back 10 degrees (cam locking tools still on) so the crank locking tool is vertical this then gives you enough slack to fit the lower idler, when this is fitted I returned the crank back to TDC, rotated every thing and the timing was spot on.

Will take me half the time next time, I do a lot of miles so it wont be that long.

Regards,

Frank.

Hi, In another life (nearly 20 years ago) I was an Auto Electrician.

I found the easiest way to find shorts that drain the battery was to connect a brake light or head lamp bulb (not a halogen) between the positive battery post and the battery lead, if it lights up brightly without the ignition on you have a short, you could use an ammeter, but if you do have a short then a bulb is much easier to see, you then need to disconnect various circuits to find the short, try Alternator first then if the short is still there then start pulling out the fuses one at a time until the bulb goes out the short will be on the circuit that the fuse covers
