Any window fitting experts on OOF?
« on: 19 July 2018, 19:17:52 »

This frame is in a new window, just fitted this week, and is misaligned, such that the glazing bead cannot sit flush with the frame, in turn leaving gaps at each end of the bead, and it looks much worse in real life. This is a window fitted this week in a new aperture in our dining room. It immediately catches the eye when you look at the window.
I would like to reject it as unsuitable. Any experts on here?

Either the weld has failed , or was not in the jig correctly when welded
Just politely ask that the frame be re-manufactured and replaced/re-fitted   :y

Agreed. I financed a fair bit of my degree working for euroell. They supply a lot of big fitters. I worked on the welding machines and to me that looks some of my early efforts. For which I quite rightly received a bollocking  ;D

If you measure the diagonals on the opening that is top left in the pic, I would think you'll find it to be out of square

Yes, a poorly constructed frame, needs binning (and any good fitter would be getting it sorted anyway without question).

What would be more interesting is just how well the frame and sealed units have been installed as I am yet to see what I would consider 'well fitted' ones by a window fitter.

Agreed, what they seem to have access to is a wide variety of trims which they use to cover their pi$$-poor workmanship.

I fitted our two, not saying I did it perfectly, but at least i didn't pay for the privilege  ::)

Double, or triple, glazed units to keep noise out and heat in, with a 1-2" air gap all round covered with a piece of plastic trim.  :(

New frame required Chris. If it has opening vents they can be re-fitted. Installed by a company???????????

Yep, local small window and door company. I expect he will change it when I speak again, he is due to contact me to deal with it. It only has a transom, I persuaded him not to fit one with the vents, although I believe they are now required. :y

You can fit "like for like" windows to conform with building regs, ie: you cannot "worsen" what is already there.
