And the invention of online shopping.  ;)
I disagree with almost every word TB said, but even if he is right, you cannot go into negotiations with you and everyone else knowing that you wont walk away from the table.
Our masters in Brussells seemed quite sure that this was the case, which is probably why she made the speech she made. Thing is, is she bluffing ? And of she is, do they know shes bluffing ?
Btw, if we don't get out soon, there is a good chance we will never have another chance. Upcoming proposed EU laws in the not too distant future may make it all but impossible to leave.
Meanwhile, comrade Corbyn - man of great principle, lifelong EU hater and different to all other politicians - who previously said Labour would carry out the result of the referendum and there would be no second vote, has changed his mind just in the hope of getting more votes and damaging his opponents electoral chances.  ::)
Being the certifiable cretin he is, he seems to have forgotten that most of his voters voted for Brexit, or maybe he has been completely submerged into the Westminster bubble.
Its funny what the prospect of power does to a rebellious politician.  ::)

Re the death of the High St, the power of Amazon should not be underestimated.  ::)

A massive Amazon distribution centre has recently popped up on the Western Approach Distribution Park on the outskirts of Avonmouth.  The M49 passes by and they have started to build a junction right where the Amazon facility is....  ::)

Lots of other big companies are there Tesco, Boots, Next, Farm Foods, TK Maxx etc and have been there for some time, but Amazon arrive and suddenly a junction onto the adjacent motorway is required.  :-X

To be honest it should have been done years ago, but I think the power of Amazon has tipped the scales.  ;)

The high streets have been dying since the previous recession...
Which we haven't recovered from yet, which is why the timing on this referendum was rubbish.

But, believe me, the last 2 years have be far worse than the previous 8 by some margin.  UK consumers have gotten used to low mortgage payments, and are running scared at them returning to the "norm" of around 5% base rate...   ...and are realising that a no deal exit will like push them up to the double figures last seen nearly 30yrs ago.

And online shopping is *NOT* the reason, and is not booming like the mainstream media would have you believe.  With few exceptions, it has simply taken over from the old mail order and catalogue techniques.  And virtually nobody is making any money from online shopping, certainly not enough to cover the loses in their bricks and mortar.  Even Tesco have thrown in the towel a few months ago...  ...and with their buying power, if they can't make it work... ;).  And that is the reason none of the bricks and mortar type places have decided not to close traditional stores and go online only.  The dotcom boom and spectacular crash that quickly followed is still relatively fresh in many memories.

The online that is flourishing is the far east Amazon-esque type online outlets.

Amazon have traditionally done well, being one of the first, slick, efficient online retailers, which set the scen for how online shopping should work.  However, it has become unstuck by its own size (if ever you have had the displeasure of having to actually talk to them over lost packages, you'd know what I mean), and is surviving by having a lot of unique items and subsription (or virtual subscription) such as the excellent Kindle reader and so-so Prime video, rather than traditional sales...  ...and a lot of its money from traditional sales comes from the god awful Amazon Marketplace.

Amazon have traditionally done well, being one of the first, slick, efficient online retailers,
Mainly due to the fact they Employ Zero Hour Contract workers on Min Wages and hardly paying any Taxes on their Profits.  >:(

They pay the taxes they are supposed to pay.  The UK media are like safari park chimps over it, but Amazon Europe are NOT a UK company, so have limited their UK tax liability.

Because the rules allow them to. This will change soon though. The screams from all and sundry are just too loud to ignore now.

Why?

Brexit or no Brexit, deal or no deal, they will pay limited corporation taxes in this country because they are not based here.  Simples really.

Probably council owned...

If not the council, almost certainly a councilor.

Day after day Theresa May's handling of #Brexit shows that she is incapable of managing her government & party. Virtually all the mismanagement of policy, projects, people & teams she has excelled at. :( Being 'a bloody awkward person' is the embodiment of all of the these problems & why she must go.

It's remarkable.

Labour is agonising and pulling itself even further apart on the details of what Brexit stance it should take

 . . . as are the Tories

As if either would actually happen. Fact is EU would tell us to "shove it" anyway. So, all this posturing is a waste of time and effort.

Most of their voters voted to leave, their leader is a lifelong Eurosceptic. Most of his party are firm remainers. He no longer gives a toss about anything apart from being PM.
So, the official stance changes at least once a day depending on who is talking about it and who they are talking to.
And they claim Corbynism to be  new type of politics.  ;D
As someone once sang "meet the new boss, the same as the old boss".  ::)

Boss wasn't quite the word I would have chosen...

The only difference being that his predecessor initially presented as a reasonable alternative to the then Tory PM. Corbyn is clearly a complete Lady bits from the get go ::)

Based on the radio, yesterday, I believe their stance is "Vote us in and you can have another referendum on whether or not you actually want to leave (you don't, remember that, vote right this time)"
