My wife hates dealing with authority and won't engage in politics. When I questioned was this a deliberate policy, she said yes as that is how there family survived in the USSR by being as low a profile and anonymous as possible. I said, you mean you didn't want to end up on the wrong list. No, we didn't want to be on any list as last weeks good list could be next weeks fulfil the regimes punishment quota list. :o :o :o

The local political commissioner was like a semi-god as your life was in his hands. If you upset him your family was an enemy of the state, not pay a big enough annual bribe, your family was an enemy of the state, he fancied your mother/wife/sister/daughter and they didn't oblige, your family was an enemy of the state. The family would then be arrested or more likely just disappear to never to be seen again. >:( >:( >:(

When TB jokes about culling as the real power is not in who is the bagman with the gun and a set of orders, but as I've said before, the real power is who decides who goes on the lists and why? The quickest way to wipe out humanity would be for everybody to cull everybody that offends anybody in thought, word or deed as everybody would have culled everybody else in a few days. :o :o :o

In the decadent west we have the luxury of democracy, laws, an independent judiciary and human rights with most people insulated with what really happens in dictatorships where the ruling regime have the total power over everything, including the monopoly on legal state violence which in practice means everything is leased to you by the state, everything, including you life. Any lease can be terminated without notice, at any time, with no right of appeal. >:( >:( >:(

Good examples of the constant and excessive use of 'legal' state violence are: Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, DPRK & Russia (especially Ramzan Kadyrov in Chechnya & the annexed Donbas (DNR/LNR) and Crimea regions in Ukraine).

FFS >:( If he and those of his ilk genuinely offend you, then pay them no heed.

It's not rocket science. Hell, it's Common Sense 101 ::)

Some examples:

I find Steve Coogan to be a smug, unfunny, fauxcialist Manc ladybits...Ergo, I haven't watched anything he has done since Alan Partridge...

Likewise Ricky Gervais and most every Labour MP since reaching voting age.
Take it You have gone off Diane.  ;D ;D
;D I wouldn't touch that with yours. Even when drunk...

I understand where you and others are coming from DG and appreciate it would be a very sad country if we stopped friendly banter.  I indeed just have stopped watching JC as you suggest, and do that with anyone I find unpalatable. :y :y

No, I just worry when some talk about the pendulum swinging too far the other way, which to be honest I even think has at times.  BUT, we must never let that pendulum go back to the days I remember when adults 'joked' about filthy Pakis, coons, niggers, poofs, thick Irish, thieving scousers, queers, etc., etc, and sending them all back to where they came from, or even worse!!  We must never go back there in the 21st century, although in some circles all that language and attitude is still alive and kicking, hence the far hard right political groups seemingly thriving.

(I am now going to apologize in advance if any of that has offended anyone anywhere the OOF goes, but I have to do that to highlight what it could all be like AGAIN if we went back there).

That is all I was emphasing. :y

Just as a slighht aside, Lizzie, do you remember when one of the Richards company's products was labelled "Thick Irish Pork Sausages"?
After protests (by the Irish?), they were re-labelled "Irish Thick Pork Sausages".
No offence meant to Albs....

As a child, I collected the gollies that came with the jars of jam, saving them up to swap for an enamel Golliwog badge!

When I was in the army, Jocks, Geordies and Scousers seemed to be drawn to each other. And we always got the blame for all the drunkenness and cracked skulls. Can't think why  ::)

The Nazi's problem (well, one of so very many) was they singled out based on religious beliefs.

No, that is not true.  The Jews were singled out for their heavy involvement and control of money and business, being seen as greedy rats who had and still were eating away at the German wealth and had impoverished the Aryan race with massive unemployment and inflation.

The Communists came next as a political threat from a sector of the German society at opposite ends of the belief system to the Nazis, and being anti-German, more in keeping with the dreaded enemy, Stalin's USSR.

Then came the Unionists who fought for individual workers rights and spoke up against National Socialism, that believed in the collective National whole not the individual and their "rights", which to the Nazis had no place in their Germany.

Then came anyone who was a democrat, liberal, or generally not a Nazi, and believed in free political speech.

The rest were anyone who was non-Aryan, disabled, homosexual, or just perceived as being a sub-human individual, with others who were seen as a threat to the Nazis and / or tried to help those being persecuted by the Nazis.

That of course shows the very negative effect of a political system that disallows free speech for it's own political National Socialist aims, the NSDAP :( :(

Religion did not feature in the Nazi cause generally, although the SS with Himler were well into the occult!
