Just don't drive into water
When we moved in here I gave the local fire station a ring, to see if someone could come around and advise me on my sons bedroom. It's up at the top of the house and the only way down is the stairs or a window the other side of the staircase. (So you'd have to get from the bannister across to the window).
It fine, he said, no worse than modern houses with bedrooms in the roof space.
Then I asked him about out windows with a small transome at the top. Buy a golf club, he said, and whack the window in the corner.
Then I asked him about the polystyrene kitchen ceiling tiles.
Look, he said, are you planning on having a fire anytime soon? Errrr....no. Then don't worry. Don't have a fire and you won't need to worry about escaping. You have smoke alarms on each floor and the doors are fire retardant.
So.....don't have a fire and don't drive into water. Easy.
