Americanism?
« on: 03 April 2019, 21:36:44 »

I've noticed that the ordinal numbers for dates are not being used anymore particularly on news sites like the BBC, and instead they are using cardinal numbers.  :-\

For example 1st April is now 1 April, 2nd April is now 2 April, 3rd April is 3 April, 4th April is 4 April and so on.  ::)

So why is this?  ???  Laziness? Americanism? EU Directive?  and how long before it transfers to speech?  :-\

Whatever it is, I don't like it!  >:(    Bring back the ordinals I say!  :y

Americanism would be April 3rd as in today would be 04/03/19  ;) A particular pet hate of mine along with any other American spelling of English  :y

At least the good old BBC are sticking to using Roman Numerals to date their productions. They are keeping a 2000 year old tradition alive :D :D ;)

You just beat me to it, Andy! If we don't all use the correct way to present dates, confusion abounds. The septic way of showing today's date, 4-3-2019, would have us back to 4th. March.
I also agree with their abuse of our fine language.....

The American spellings are generally truer to Olde English than current 'English'... ::)
