Madness down the block!!! (auction)
« on: 11 August 2006, 01:22:34 »

well, i was at ym local motor auction tonight (thurs).

absolute madness!!!

now im no expert on Omega pricing, but i think ithis was rediculous.

T Omega Elite 2.5 V6 saloon
136k miles
no tax
cant remember MOT, but dont think it was that long
drivers side rear quarter window not fitted, just on rear seat
Bose stereo
c/c
leaking cam cover gasket
needs passenger seat replacing
NOT leather
needs 2 rear arches

now for me, i wouldnt pay much for this car, but £580 imo is a joke!!!!  im going to put my 3.0 N Reg elite with full test and 6 months tax and 106k miles, leather, no leaks, new water pump and timing belt kit there.  reckon i should pull decent money!!!

go on, someone tell me im being silly and £580 is a good price..  you'll never convince me though!!  the car was dog rough!!!

why buy a shed at what can be conceived as over priced to spend time and money on doing up, when you can buy a car in far better condition for not much more than £1k!!

my car might be an N reg 3.0, but i'd sooner have my car than the 2.5 at the auction and have to worry about having 2 full arches replaced.

Sometimes auctions have cars going through at silly money. Clearly this was one of those times!

£580 + comission = double what I would pay!  :-?

exactly Dave, at £280-£300 it MIGHT of been worth it, but having arches done properly isnt a cheap job..

my mate nearly told him about mine for sale LOL  didnt have the heart to tell him..

Does seem expensive, but difficult to judge without seeing. At £580, it could still be a bargain - if you broke it....

perhaps it could be, but the interior isnt worth anything due to the passenger seat having a hug hole in the base etc..

yup the money is in the breaking.

£100 for the bose

£50 odd for the rear bline

Another £50 to 100 on alloys

You can see it gradually add up!

Elite will have blind, and the mid would be half size if it had the ccrt700 radio (it uses a half height GID)

£580 sounds way over the top! OK, you could break it and MAYBE make a few bob on it, but hardly worth the effort.

this confirms what i saw at auction...

At BCA Blackbushe in Surrey i saw a 1999 T Reg GLS with 24k miles (bull) interior was shagged, rear bench in the footwell. Most seats in very poor state, badly worn steering wheel suggested 150k miles +

Scratched bonnet really badly, front and rear tow point covers missing, bodywork had loads of dents... how much did it go for?

£795!! :o

Its not worth anything in bits, as its a GLS... no climate no nothing...  :-/

I dont geddit. I dont know that much about auctions (enough to get by I think), but if I went to an auction with a grand, I'd expect to be coming away with something decent.

Excatly the reason i dont go to evening/weekend auctions.....too many 'joe public' around to push up to silly prices

Go during the day...when most are at work and you mostly only get dealers.....more sensible prices  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

i would't mind seeing a police auction... interesting to see how much '02 or '03 plate plod omegas go for... being the last ones wonder if they had any extras.

I saw a 52 plate plod omega with CDX alloys from a dealer.... which had come direct from the police.

Agree about daytime auctions - i am off to one on Wednesday afternoon when the office jockeys are at the ....office - no offence to anyone i am one myself on normal wednesday afternoons!! ;D

will take a couple of grand and would expect something easy to sell and low maintinance.

But its a lottery so you never know!!

How much exactly is the comission?

local to me  there are various % to be added in. i generally go with £100 per £1000 of the sale price to keep me right. For a car like that - if it was in Glasgow auctions, it would end up costing you about £650
