now being quite a proud sort of person,i decided to invest in some new wax, polishing cloths etc for the omega,being black i realised it would be a bit of a pain to keep clean...
So in sunny halfords 'meguairs gold class wax/polish blah blah the best etc,etc....'  "12.99 a bottle, so i bought one,thought while im here just get some wax for the wifes car(dont want her using my £12.99 gear..)
so down the same isle,'meguiars car wax blah,blah not as good as the gold class etc,etc, americas top seling wax....' £5.99 bought that.
i think you know whats coming, wifes bonnet, black focus, cheap wax,£5.99,looks fantastic very pleased,lovely shine etc,etc.
my bonnet expensive wax, £12.99not as good not as pleased,not as shiny etc....
any ideas? yes i did follow the insructions,yes i did wash both and shammy dried them, point being that the wax that is twice the price,is in my opinion not as good as the cheaper gear....why mr meguairs.....?
can of worms time, which wax do you use for your cars and why? anyone with a black omega tell me what they use please?

Never used the mcguires, so cant comment on it.  

Got a black Omega as well and I use Auto Glym resin polish then the extra gloss protection.  Always comes up a treat.  Noticed that you need to make sure that the car surface is cool to the touch, though.  If its overcast (ideal polishing weather to me) but very warm, or if the sun has just gone in, then it makes the polishing bit a real pain in the posteriour, with streaks and smudges.

Either that or use more elbow grease

Auto Glym for me too.. Have used different sorts now and again but always go back to the Auto Glym....

I have for many a year used Turtle wax am quite happy with the results you can see the shine on the car if you look on the GALLERY section ( my omega after a polish). It also looks alot more of a shine than the photo shows.

That's quite a shine you've got going there. What polish were you using on it?
 
I do all my own painting and body work so I have got a nice selection of professional polishes, glazes and compounds.
 
To get it like that I used G3 compound, 3M Finesse-IT and 3M Hand Glaze.

Anyone know if this is readily available?

I've got some SupaGuard stuff here i was gonna try, anyone heard of that?

I thought "supaguard" is that stuff you can get from dealers at purchase when they say you don't need to wax the car again for 3 years or so ... or am I talking rubbish again?  :-/

It is, I used to work with the dam stuff when I valeted cars during the summrr break when I was studying.

Its the biggest con going and no better than autoglym and certainly doesn't last more then about 6 months.....plus they charge silly money to have it done.

I have used turtle wax seems quite good but auto glym it is for me

i have used autoglym for years, and i think it isn't a bad product, it's good value for money and does what it say on the tin.

However auto glym does have a couple of drawbacks, one of them being it 'lifts' the paint, even though it is smooth it does have a very mild cutting ability, that's why you can see your poliching cloth change colour, its pulling part of the paint off the car.
the other drawback is that it is chalkey, when it goes off it creates a powder that is a pain to get out of the cloth.

I now use carnuaba wax, it is easier to apply than liquid wax, it doesn't create dust and it looks the business. I have a gold car and a dark purple one, both of them look the business after this has been used on them and gives a real depth of shine as well.
