I am looking to purchase a diagnostic bit of kit. I am looking for one which hopefully will fit my 96 Omega and wifes 2005 Astra.
I am looking at this http:link removed . and wondered if it would work with both cars.

Or does anyone have a different ideas or recommendations of what to purchase.

Be aware however that is illegal software so you should remove that link, to help protect the forum.

No, sadly.

For your 96 Omega, you need a non standard reader, which is the problem.

For the 2005 Astra, a standard OBDII one that can do CANBUS would do.

Genuine Opelscanner £340.00 includes tax, that should work
but sadly not sub £100.00

if its for diagnosing but not much else,i got the "My Naff Code Reader" this week an it does all i need it to do,that includes wiping the mileage back to zero on the 2001 vectra,it was a mistake i must add not intentional

If you are in the UK, unless you bought it from the UK Distributor at a cost of around £600, they it is an illegal copy, most likely a cheap Chinese clone. Thus no discussion on this site I'm afraid.

I know one had a cease and desist letter.

others are retrospectively pruning.

The owners of this software would appear to be very pissed and not taking this pirateing lightly.

Of course, if they sold it for £100, they would like make 10 times more money!

Exactly! To be honest, the costs they are asking isn't a million miles away from a second hand real tech2. I know I'd rather have a device that worked properly, and with all onboard systems, rather than a device that is a good code reader and a so-so live data reader (clunky), but makes a bloody mess of what limited programming it can do.

I think "My Naff Code Reader" have got their market confused, it's a good hobbyist product but priced as a professional tool.
As Jimbob says priced sub £100 they would shift many many more units and surely make more dosh.
The flaky nature of some of the systems does not warrant the price tag to me but as a hobbyists tool it does much more than the cheapo tech2 leads.

The product has far too many faults to be a professional tool. It really is in the hobbyist/DIY market. Garages will use multi-marque readers such as the snap-offs etc

Hence why the cheap chinese knock offs are popular among hobbyists but the official kit doesn't sell to the motor trade.
Like you say if considering spending £600 on their kit you're seriously going to look at paying the extra for genuine tech2 and all the support it comes with from VX.

Not only this posting "My Naff Code Reader" seems to get confused with Opel Autoscanner both are interfaces that read codes from diag port

As said "My Naff Code Reader" around £600. Opel Scanner £340.00 for legal interfaces.
Unable to say which is best for your needs?
