not sure thats right. think it was 25yrs when the rule was made, not just 25yrs old.  Think that translates to 1977

They never are actually exempt from tax however once they reach 25 they count as classic cars and therefore get there tax disc for free but, you still have to display it just like before you can apply for your car to given classic status at the d.v.l.a. I think you can even do it on-line at http://www.dvla.gov.uk/onlineservices.as

INCORRECT!

A vehicle had to have been manufactured on or before the 31st December 1972 to be classed as a classic and receive free road tax.

I underlined manufactured because I have a car registered 1st Feb 1973 that is tax exempt, it was manufactured in late november 72 according the heritage certificate :P

I always amazed at the number of people who still believe that the rolling 25 years for the tax exempt vehicles still exists. It was very quicky & quietly dropped more or less asoon as this current shower got into power  >:(  >:(  >:(

As far as insurance for a 'classic car'  .... depends who you insure it with & how you use the car!  :y  :y
