Am I missing something important??
« on: 26 September 2006, 16:21:59 »

Hi guys, I refitted the auto box into the GLS today and after connecting up the wiring, I suspect I'm missing a sensor from the exhaust. There's a rectangular 4 pin plug hanging down the passenger side of the auto box and an empty threaded hole in the exhaust, just before the lambda sensor. I've marked it on the accompanying picture. Can anyone tel me what should be there? The car is a 2ltr auto estate, 1999 facelift model.

Cheers Jim

:) just noticed the lambda sensor attached to the other side and mentioned in your 1st post not sure what is missing to be honest.

My 2.0 doesn't have this.

Have you tried looking at a replacement part to see if it has the same hole in it, www.buypartsbuy.co.uk should have a piccy you could look at to compare.

That was quick nixoro!!  :) I'm wondering if it's some sort of sensor to do with the auto box as it seems to be on the same part of the loom?

Not sure if the manual box has similar connector but on mine the reverse switch loom is part of the same loom to the lambda sensor.

Have you got the lambda sensor connected, only the extra connector might be the reverse switch

The Lamda sensor wires run down the inner wing, totally seperate from the gearbox loom. I noted all the connectors on the gearbox before I lifted it in situ so that I'd know if I missed any. I got them all plugged in so it's either a spare plug in the harness or goes to something that I'm missing. Someone has obviously unscrewed something from the exhaust, strange as they just butchered the lamda wires instead of disconnecting it properly  :-/

Hi Kev, I thought that wa the reason that the wires to the Lamda had been cut but it unscrewed easily when I gave the spanner an initial crack! I'm hoping a quick solder & heatshrink repair will suffice on that one  :)

Make sure you get temperature resistant sleeving for the wires after connecting/joining. If you're stuck gimme a shout, i've got some in my box, you can have it for hee-haw.  ;)

Any chance of a piccy of the 4 pin plug may help to identify where it goes.

Isn't it for the hamsterometer?  You know, to monitor the hamster that makes the car go.   ;) ;D

I didn't photograph the plug, I'll nip out to the garage and see if I can see it without crawling under the car again! Here's the other connectors on the gearbox, four in total all marked with red arrows (hope they don't blow off when I drive the car  ;D)  And no smart comments on how did I get acrobatic flying teams on my gearbox either  ::)

One nearest the driveshaft coupling I would say is your reverse switch connector. Could be wrong.

Gearbox fluid level sensor I think is the arrow just below to the left.

I haven't got the foggiest what the others are. :-[

All guess work i'm afraid so both suggestions could be wrong bring on the auto peeps.
