I've only ever had one parking offence.  I still dispute I was on double yellows - I had all 4 wheels on pavement, hence wasn't parked on road....

the trouble is that double yellow lines apply not only on the road but also the pavement adjoining it ... as I did the same a while ago when parked outside the post office when picking up a delivery. Got caught in a queue inside the sorting office and got back to the car to find a nice yellow envelope attached  

Double-checked the highway code and unfortunately they were right  

They've also (twice - in a different car each time) tried to do me round here as there is a bit of the road which did have double-yellow lines, but part of it was resurfaced and they have never repainted the lines. I appealed by post on both occasions, with pictures - and each time the ticket was cancelled ...

Dirty B*******. I got 36 tickets in 8 years with my last job. Was a Systems Engineer for Fujitsu. Edinburgh city center with a car load of parts for servers and tills. I had nowhere else to park but on double yellows at the back of the shop
