IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: 03 October 2006, 17:33:30 »

Yep, I can finally report that my previously enginless GLS Estate is now moving under it's own power once more after a successfull heart transplant  :) I collected the engine on Friday and spent Friday afternoon changing the bits that the breakers broke taking it out along with the inlet manifold which is set up with the LPG stuff. Saturday afternoon was spent drilling out the broken exhaust manifold stud and finally lowering the engine into the car. Sunday and Monday was spent working out where everything connected to and taking bits of to gain access to other bits that needed to go on first  >:( Today I managed to get it to cough into life.  8-)
Bearing in mind that I never took the engine out, the only thing I'm not sure I've got right is a couple of the thick vacuum pipes at the back that come from the unit next to the DIS. Would it make much difference if they are mixed up? I've still got the alternator top adjuster thingy to get as that's still missing. Engine management light is on but I'm not sure if thats from the previous distruction of the old engine or would it have reset itself with the battery being disconnected for several months?
mot is booked for next Wednesday so that'll give me time to change the cambelt, oil etc and sort out a couple of other little bits & pieces.  So far so good............

Cheers Jim

Thanks Markiec, I was well chuffed that I managed to get it running at all! I'm sure there's an Omega in the breakers with everything intact so I'll try and have a look tomorrow. The car is running okay but there is an uneveness at idle so could be something amiss.

Cheers Jim

Cambelts are easy enough, and engine transplant would be far more daunting....

I totally agree, but its the same with everything, its only easy if you know what you are doing or have the confidence to tackle the job

The complexity of the V6 motor is daunting but with some expert guidance and support (plentiful on here) one can work up the confidence to do quite major work.
All in all a glowing testimony to the guys on here.

Correct Captain, I am quite happy to tackle anything on the meega now, knowing that a true meega expert or 50 are only a click away if you run into trouble ;)

The gearbox is the easy bit, mine was in the boot  ;D I must admit, I almost walked away when I first went to see the car. The gaping hole where the engine should have been looked very empty with just a mass of wiring and hoses strewn across it. The rest of the bits were also piled in the boot and bearing in mind that I'd never even seen what an Omega engine bay looked like, I hadn't a clue where it all went! The price was right so I thought I'd give it a go. Lots of advice from people on here certainly helped and it was amazing how everything sort of fell into place when I started.
I'd say give it a go, as previously mentioned, the feeling of satisfaction when it all works far out weighs the swearing, blood ,sweat and tears of actually doing the job in the first place ;)

Cheers Jim
