led interior light bulb
« on: 28 January 2007, 18:10:30 »

Hi, just wondering has anyone put one of these in their car?
Just i bought one off flea bay in green with 2 leds and when in the car it doesn't go off.?

It goes off when i start the car but when i alarm it /wait for the delay it just goes dimmer but stays on.
I even left it for a couple of hours to see if it would discharge itself but nope bloody thing wont go off???

cheers
in advance
Mick

i think the dimmer system only dims to a certain level (ie until it thinks the lamp is out) but with an LED bulb having considerably less resisitance than a normal fillament, it wont go out. this could be a load of tosh, but it makes sense in my head lol  :D ;D

i have used the "festoon" type bulbs in mine with no problem though.

LEDs are not really suited to interior lights - not only for your current problem, but also they are not that good at illumination...

Yes I leave it in & mine's the 8 LED type.
As said earlier I think there's always a current running through unless the ignition is on but it's not enough to light an ordinary bulb.
I've just left the car for a week whilst on holiday & it started fine...

IO bought some of the blue LEDS but I don't think I will put them in now, not on the dash anyway, as the new white dials the markings are blue in any case.

I do fancy some dash ones but in green as have done all tinas dash bulbs in blue and it looks the dogs, but the light in question is for the courtesy light
Although green appears not as readily available as blue.
Am also gonna have a go at getting some switches and soldering in  the blue/green leds (when i get finished in time to get to scrappy, may go monday as i start at 5am so should be finished whilst still daylight yay :) cause i still need a bloomin bolt for me earth on battery aswell )
How much did you pay for the blue dash kit?
