General Car Chat / Re: volvo v40 squeaking noises
« on: 20 October 2018, 08:19:02 »
Well a little more update. The mechanic tried yesterday to rotate the wheeld. Said they were ok and the noise was new pads which was nirmal.
Went today to get the wheels aligned and another mechanic said I have two bad rods (both sides) and that the those rubber sleves on steering wheel column (dont know the exact name in english sorry) are ruptured. Front tyres have worn more on the inside.
Could this be related to the noise for instance a lack of lubrification on the column??? ?

Pads are brand new.
Fitted after the noise started appearing.
Could maybe warped/bent disc cause something like this.
I didn't feel any noticeable difference in heat between the wheels after a drive.
I don't think the gearbox could cause these noises only on one wheel??
If the gearbox is the problem I guess it would squeak when you turn either of the wheels
but please correct me if I'm wrong

It was behing the wheel but cannot pinpoint it diretly 100%
Funny thing is that the humming noise which is heard at speed best heard at 1600-2200rpm
and it sounds like it is alway the same frequency.
Squeaking noise is best heard when starting to move (and changing direction with lots of steering)

General Car Chat / volvo v40 squeaking noises
« on: 17 October 2018, 21:19:14 »
Well here I am again after a while.
Posted questions on volvoforums but that forum is nowhere near as good as this one.
So here goes if anyone can help.
Have some squeaking noises coming from the front of the car.
Car was squeaking (it was happening at the begining when going in the straight line and was little louder when turning to the left).
Was checked by the mechanic first time but then there was no noise.
Now noise is almost constant  (humming noise heard at speed).
The mechanic rechecked it again and said it was probably the gearbox.
Said that to leave it alone and wait for it to breaks down   :( !!!
I jacked the car up today and tried to manually rotate the the front wheels.
Car was in neutral.
Right wheel rotated without a sound and the left one was making squealing metal on metal noises (not to loud but they are there)
Also both wheels took some force to rotate but not to much (I jacked them up one at a time)

Is this normal? Or should they rotate freely with little effort when in neutral?
Also is it possible that it is the gearbox since the noise is comming from one wheel only??
I would be guessing that this points out to it being the wheel bearing, please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Can someone help since the mechanic is being a bit of an as... and said to wait since it breaks down that we will lookinto it then.
I'm pretty often on the road and don't want to have problems esspecially when I have a kid in the car.

General Car Chat / Re: possible aircon problem volvo??
« on: 04 June 2018, 19:21:00 »
Will contact the dealer responsible for selling the car tomorrow and hear what he has to say.
I would like for someone to clarify what can be the possible reason for engine disintegraton.

Well talked to the mechanic today who picked up the car.
Not good news.
It turns out the belt was ok and was indeed changed but the piston managed to rupture the engine block
and the engine is completely gone.
I asked the mechanic what can be the possible reason.
He said it can happen sometimes on heavy load usually.
Car was working around 2000 rpm and it wasn't even that loud when it happened. Car only did 137k miles.
Apparently it is renault engine and now I have to find a new one.
Just my luck

General Car Chat / possible aircon problem volvo??
« on: 02 June 2018, 12:45:29 »
Got a new car recently (couldn't find a decent omega so bought a smaller volvo v40)
Car is in nice condition.
Engine is 1.9d 85kw.
But what bugs me is this.
Car has aircon and it cools fine but works strange (at least I think it works strange).
When you put the aircon on it doesn't drop the revs as every other car I've driven but it does so every 20 to 30 seconds
You can hear the revs drop as like the compressor engages and disengages every now and then.
Maybe it is designed to be like this I have no idea but if it is not what could be the problem here.
I haven't driven it to any garage.
My mechanic who serviced the last car says he won't work on volvo so have to find someone who knows what he is doing.
Anyone with any knowledge on this, advice would be appreciated.

General Car Chat / quick advice/help needed volvo vs vectra
« on: 27 May 2018, 21:20:51 »
Need some qucik advice.
Looking at two cars tomorrow.
Vectra c with 1.9jtd engine
Volvo first gen 2004 year with 1.9d
Not sure what to buy.
Vectra is more expensive/ and newer.
also from outside it has more scratches from town driving
Both have roughly same mileage.
Volvo seems to have Renault engine inside.
Anyone had these cars and how do they compare??

Omega General Help / Re: Cambelt change intervals
« on: 21 May 2018, 22:18:42 »
When I had a 2.2 mig car died only a few days after I bought it.
Cambelt flew of (due to pump), I did change everything except the pump (actually mechanic did)
The pump broke and...
The engine was eventualy rebuilt.
Cambelts used were contitech I believe and the waterpump was some cheap replacement part
Never had issues again but next time everything was done at 40k miles

General Car Chat / Re: Octavia mk1 question

Thank you all for your condolences.
He had Parkinsons so in the end was suffering and wasn't the person he used to be(rarely concious and completely immobilized).
So in a way I'm glad it doesn't hurt him anymore and hope he is at a better place.
Anyway won't bother you with my loss
Thank you again
