Complete new key
« on: 01 September 2015, 22:39:56 »

It's been a while since I've been on but my brother has my old Omega and has lost his 3 button key.

I am after a complete key with blade, little chip / all innards and a cut blade - is there a one stop shop for this as I cannot seem to find stores that do the inners or cut the blade. Might someone have an old key that I could get reprogrammed?

I understand it would need a tech 2 session. I have the car pass.

Thanks!

It's a common Vx part, so finding a local locksmith who stock them is a few minutes with the yellow pages and a phone.

Then you drive the car there and have the whole job done while you wait.

You can buy the remote, chip and blade separately, then have them programmed/cut locally but that seems like a lot of faffing about to me.

I doubt a locksmith will have access to the blade cut designs from Vauxhall?  :-\ (assuming here you don't have a spare old key? To copy the blade?)

Think a trip to a Vx dealer is needed, you will need the blade cut to the mechanical code in the car pass. The eBay one may not work with your car, as there were different types over the years, some Delphi some not IIRC.

Last time I bought one I bought the remote fob from the dealer at trade, the new eBay ones are not built as well.

Thankyou - we still have one full working key (this was the "spare" before the "main" key was lost) - I will pop to the stealers and see what they quote.

Should be around £40 from a dealer for the fob bit, blank blade with transponder off eBay for around a tenner.. :y

Thanks - so could I take the key to a standard key cutting shop to get a copy or is that just to naïve of me?

Standard cutting shop would do fine, although some are funny about cutting a key they have not supplied.

Then just tech2 to program it, so either dealer or TheBoy?  :y

This may be of use to someone in the future:

Part Number

I know Yorkshire people are known for being tight, but the last time I needed to make a key......
10 for the blade, cut.
5 for the immob chip (check the numbers, there is more than one sort)
5-10 for a second hand fob (again check the numbers)

As long as you have the car pass, a cheaper version of Tech2 has done this for me a few times. The chip is a one hit wonder, so if you screw up, you need a new one. I also seem to remember it not working properly until the computer was disconnected and then the drivers door open and closed again - go figure.

Oh and you can remove any lost immob chips from the ECU to help security. Another word of advice, I've been asked by my insurance company before 'how many keys do you have?' My answer is always one.

Not sure you're right with that ..... I had a 'new' fob programmed for my Omega ...... it definitely wasn't new
