My CDX is now fitted with late Elite/MV6 VX 6 spoke 17" alloys instead of the 16" CDX alloys it came with.
Insurance quote is asking are the wheels "Non Standard" or "Optional Extra" ?
I am guessing to be totally honest these wheels are in fact "Non Standard" to this car , but this increases the quote by over £200 to nearly £600 :o :o :o
Quote as "optional extra" & quote stays the same as a standard car :-\ :-\
Any thoughts ?

The different diameter of the wheel will cause the speedometer to be slightly out, so I doubt you'd get away with 'optional extra'. It's your choice really, pay the money or take a chance.
People on here put alloys from different models on their cars, so I guess they'd be better placed to advise.

I thought the differing tyre profile compensated for that as in 16's have a 55 profile on omegas & the 17's have a 45 profile , making the outer circumference much the same . :-\
Also as when 18" imscher wheels are fitted , tyres have a 40 profile . .I think :-\

As for the wheels, go to another company and if questioned, just say they are standard OEM wheels ;)
They are using it as a excuse to pull your pants down :-X

Your wheels where fitted to omegas so just tell them they are standard.i spoke to my insurance when i fitted my 18" irmschers they said as it was a option it was fine.

yes thats what I am thinking. A quote for a CDX , Elite or an MV6, either 2.6 or 3.2 all come out the same on this comparison site .
Guess I will just insure it as a standard car & be "unaware" to the fact these are not "CDX" wheels.
Probably come back & bite me on the arse though ::) ::)

If they could have been specified by a buyer at the time of purchase, they are an Option. Only if they were not available for the car at the time of purchase could they be considered Non-Standard. :y

Personally if I fitted Omega 17s on CD/X I wouldn't bother talking to the Insurance Mob, but I dare say if when you bought the Car from New and you wanted the Upgraded Wheels fitted the VX Salesman would have taken your extra Cash to get the job done. :-X

I think insurance companies are ok with oem rims ,though if they can screw you for more premium they will.
BUT cheap Chinese or aftermarket rims have been known to fail/cause accidents
as for speedo reading wrong ect , i use a wheel website calculator to check

Factory supplied alternative wheels are generally a no cost option if the same size, or a cost option if larger.
As opposed to an aftermarket modification.

cough, you bought the Car like it from the previous owner, un Coughs, theyve got Vx Badges on them that were fitted to the Omega, whats is your Insurance Co want from you, that you were a Parts Manager at the VX Factory that made these Cars 15 Years ago, therefore you should know better. :D

I'd prob call them optional extras, as they would have been in the options catalogue.
As for Omega wheel sizes, instrument panel and MID/CART/GID/CID are supposed to be reprogrammed to match, so there is something odd with the 225/55/16 size compared to the other size options. CBA to check now much different, suspect just enough to be in the realms of "just out enough for the legal requirements for new cars"...

225/55/16"s are more accurate than the 234/45/17"s...
Mv6 wheels made my plod over read a touch, whereas the 245/40/18"s it ended up wearing were exactly the same rolling radius as the 225/55/16"s...

I had Elite alloys on my Elite :y
...... they just happened to be from a later Elite & my Insurance company were none the wiser ::) ::)

The config options are essentially 225/55/16 or everything else.

police vehicles have their clocks calibrated accurately by irs etc

And why I deliberately went with the 245/40/18 tyre option on the Irmscher wheels instead of the more common 235/40/18s

If you can find a 245/40/18 tyre that fits without rubbing the arch or the strut, why would anyone pick a 235/40/18 ;D

Yeah, some are fine, some aren't. I've had 235/40/18 rub with anything near a sensible-ish camber angle. More of an issue with lowered cars, obviously.
