Well,

it certainly does have a misfire.

It doesn't want to pull its own weight very well, and feels very sick.

On cruising home there is a nasty vibration that sends the whole car buzzing at about 50-65 mph, it starts more or less when the torque converter locks up.

So, I think she definatley needs a set of plug leads.

Oh, and Mark, THanks for help tonight, really do appreciate it.

Vibration at that speed and no power. I would put money on ignition. New leads first, closely followed by DIS pack.

WHen the lead were put back after the rocker gaskets were re-done last night, Mark noticed that the leads that are fitted were from a 2.0, and so the plug end of the lead were not quite long enough.

As a result, they were only just reaching the plugs, thus causing a misfire.

whether or not the DIS pack pack is faulty, I would need new leads, so will go down that avenue first.

How did it get a set of 2.0 leads? 4 cylinders/6 cylinders?

Its an interesting one, looks like somebody has used 1.5 sets of 4 pot leads.

I would recommend a set of leads, laidback66 could probably help fit them if needed.....but, I have been thinking about it (couldn't sleep last night, to hot), it might be worth trying to source a dis pack as it was definately 2 cylinders down.

The breathers were VERY blocked, the throttles were filthy and somebody had adjusted the throttle stop so the throttle were never shut and the idle never worked.

So, its good news all round then?

The syptoms of shuddering and now power were identical to my 2.5 v6 Dis pack failure last month. But if the leads are the wrong ones and are stretching at all, they may become brittle and start missing. I would replace them as a whole set first, because that needs doing regardless. If the fault is still there, immidiately change the DIS pack after that.

Breathers sounds like they were a nightmare!

I wasn't responsible for cleaning the breather last night (in fact I thinkt hat i was only responsible for distracting mark!).

But from what I saw, they were were bad! The breather box was clear though, but only because the pipes were so bad that all the crud got stuck there before it made to the breather box.

I have my eye on a DIS pack at the moment (Thanks for passing me that one Mark), so if the plug leads dfont work, then will replace the DIS pack.

I hope its not a DIS pack failure, as I am trying to convince my Mrs to not sell the car. If many more things go wrong, she will find herself on eBay (the car that is, not the misus! [smiley=lolk.gif])

Strangley enough was forced to make a short journey in the car this morning, and after about 5 minutes, the misfire was still repsent, but wasn't as bad as it was last night.

This is what used to happen, she had a misifre, but after a few miles, it would clear itself. Although, on the drive home last night, it didn't clear itself.

Plug leads defo.....still suspect dis pack.....once done I cant see much else wrong with it so it would be silly to get rid it as you would then have a car you know....and given how much it cost you.

Just picked up a new set of plug leads, so will see if it makes any difference. Watch this space.....
I think she would just like a sportier looking Vectra.

Still think she mad, but at least its still a vauxhall.

Just a shame the engine is the wrong way round!

Getting it running right seems to be a ong haul at the moment.

I have fitted the new plug leads, and its still misfiring.

I do have a query, I tried to follow the plug lead guide on other forum (couldn't find it here), and it says that the middle row of the DIS pack should go to Cyl. 3 or possibly 6. Well, Mine goes to 5.

So do I just need to "put leads in rite 'oles" or, is there something more going on here.

I understand that it was difficult to tell which leads went where last night, as none of them were the right length....

Or am I just being thick!

Yeah, I remembered that you said something about those, just dont have a mirror small enough to fit, and I cant get my head in there!

Its a bit fiddly to get too, but not that bad.
