Title: Halfords wiper blades
Post by: terry paget on 16 May 2018, 02:53:29
Preparing a Rover Streetwise for MOT, I needed a new rear wiper blade. Length of previous was 17.1/2 inches. Local Halfords has a long display of assorted wiper blades, their own brand and Bosch. I presumed own brand were the cheaper, so bought a Halfords 17 inch blade. Got it home, tried to fit it, it had fittings I have never seen before, and a pictorial guide on the back of the box, no written instructions. I could not figure it out. I told SWMBO I have been fitting wiper blades for 60 years, and every time it is a challenge. I found the receipt, and took it back to complain.
I found the manager, who had served me less than an hour earlier, and demanded that he fit it for me. He told me it was the wrong blade. I said I thought all their blades would fit any car. He asked what car it was for, I told him. He went to the rack of blades and gave me a Bosch one, same length. I thought it would cost more, not so. Halfords blade cost £15, Bosch £10. He gave me a £5 refund.
I enquired how I should have known which blade would fit my cat. Best to ask, he said.

There was no screen system in Midsomer Norton, but there was a flip card system, which I thought would tell me which length I needed. I had the same problem buying the temperature sensor for the Streetwise, the man wanted to know the reg. number. We live and learn.

Rear blades, unlike the fronts, tend to be very bespoke and moulded to the arm shape.  :y

Yes I break out into a cold sweat every time I have to change a wiper blade. ::)

It should be simple.  Right?  ;D

I fitted Bosch as well, due to being cheaper than Halfords own brand.

My old Rover 25 took 3 blades of the same length. So I'd buy a pack of 10 from Vauxhall Tradeclub, £20 delivered, sell 2 "kits" of 3 blades on egay for a tenner each, plus postage, and fit the rest to the Rover for free.

Because egayers are very stupid, and this was so lucrative, I was ordering 2 or 3 boxes a week ;D

But then at the time, I was ordering 50 VOF93 for around 75p each (not on TC), selling 49 of them for £4 plus postage, and keeping one for myself.

Did I mention the average egayer is incredibly stupid?
