Title: Bye Bye Trade Club
Post by: andyc on 29 November 2019, 21:41:12
Talking to a vauxhall parts manager the other day and he was tell me that T/C will be no more in the new year. PSA have decided to start shutting the program down as the parts hubs come on line.

PSA want parts hubs dotted around the country which will be supplied by them, then the hubs will supply dealers, Citroen, Peugeot, DSA, Vauxhall and perhaps more once the tie up with Fiat tie up happens.

This will mean that the dealer will be retailer only and will not be able to supply parts at trade prices, I'll update if i get more info

Sad but inevitable I suppose. Vauxhall was always destined to start going tits up once the French got their hands on it.

Haven't had TC for a long time now but local (to work) dealer always gives trade prices which beats the prices of most other suppliers, also keep an eye out for consumables bnib / old stock etc on evilbay. I intend to keep two of mine for a few years yet so try and keep a few common items.

Of course if I could find a large rwd / 4wd saloon with decent handling, decent size boot, easy home servicing / cheap parts etc etc around three years old and under £10k it would all be different!

That's pretty much the arrangement I had with my local dealer before they went under...

In many cases, say "trade cash sale"
there is often a generic account on the POS system the counter staff use  :)
sometimes they ask to see proof your in the relevant trade, e.g Travis perkins card for building stuff

Sad news, :(

I suppose parts will no longer be needed at all once Vauxhall are making disposable sh1te like the rest of the PSA group. ;D

So far the General Manager at my Vx dealer is saying they will give me trade discount, but obviously things are changing and that does not look good! :( :(

;D ;D ;D ;D  I must admit Dave I do have rather a good relationship with this General Manager, who was also the one who authorised the payment of nearly £1,000 compensation or me when I started legal action against Vx for a faulty a/c compressor! :D :D :D 8)

He actually is a lovely guy who always makes a point of coming over to greet me when I visit the dealership :-* :-* :-* :D :D ;)

I doubt if he would do that for any man! ::) ::) :)

Thanks andyc, sad news... I get most bits from places selling of stock they've bought cheap, but sorry to see it go. Also this is surely one of the main reasons people join Autobahnstormers.

RIP

I suppose parts will no longer be needed at all once Vauxhall are making disposable sh1te like the rest of the PSA group. ;D

What do you mean "once"? ;)

I'm always slightly surprised dealers still have a parts counter at all - surely if Joe Public is buying parts, he's not bringing it to your workshop and paying labour (where the money is)..

But that is the point.  Who in their sane mind would willingly pay £90 per hour in labour charges, when they can do the work themselves or get a much cheaper garage to fit the genuine parts they buy from their local Vx dealer.

I myself only use my Vx dealership dealer when I cannot be bothered / do not have the skills to do what they can do in a lovely, warm, well appointed workshop, with me getting (currently) trade prices on the work.

If the Vx dealers stopped selling the parts, then they are just handing over a lucrative part of their business to all the other parts suppliers, and even encouraging more Vx owners o take their vehicles elsewhere for repairs / maintenance. ;)

Well, up til now, I got TC prices on TC items, trade on non TC items, and occasionally was called if they were offloading Omega parts.  All delivered same day for free.

But as it was over the phone, I never needed to flash me moobs :)

Shame to lose that, though I suspect my dealer will still see me right :)

I think all but the most stupid and those wanting to keep up dealer service history are sane enough never to use a franchised dealer for work.  Virtually every one will be commission based, so doing it right isn't an option.

I'm glad I had wifey's astra serviced at Vx, no arguments about all the warranty work it's needed.
